Not one of my pets but a young coyote learned a valuable lesson this morning. I have a ten acre lake just off my front porch. Right now it's ice covered with 6" of fresh snow and it's still snowing. I know that the ice is around 1/2" thick - or less. The young coyote ventured out on the lake - a short cut - going across rather than going all the way around. He got out about 25' to 30' and the ice must have either cracked or started to break up under his weight and the weight of the new fallen snow. He turned tail and it looked like a 4-legged buzz saw. He stood on the shore quite a while looking back out on the lake - where he had been. Picture off my front porch. Summer & winter.
