Yep... I thought nephew could make a little side money with my splitter and fallen oak...

It would be a sideline when selling Christmas trees.

The coastal live oaks are old and not very straight but make excellent firewood.

Had a little wind storm here a few weeks back. I worked over a bundle of 5 trees with about a 20 ft. diameter root ball. Not my everyday thing. It all worked out ok. 21282.jpeg21274.jpeg20201129_102150_resized.jpg

Clearing land, reclaiming pasture...

Yesterday, I pulled over a 12 inch Maple with the tractor because I don't want to leave any stumps in the field.

Couldn't push it over, so put the chain about 25 feet up the tree to leverage pulling it over. (Yes Ma, I used the draw bar, 3 chains and a heavy tow strap to be clear of the tree when it fell.)

It took the MX6000 with loaded tires and 800# box blade a dozen tugs to loosen the roots and finally get it to topple.

The root mass ended up about 5 feet in diameter for that little tree.

Said that as a simple comparison to your huge trees toppled by the storm Mr. Oldtimer.

Your root mass is huge, just a guess, but easily a couple thousand pounds, and your trunks at the base looks nearly 4 feet in diameter.

It must have been a powerful wind to have taken that set of trees down, and that was without having leaves on the trees to act as a sail.

Hope you didn't lose your home roof in that storm!!!

Wow. Glad it worked out ok - that kind of work scares me. Lots of embodied stress; rootball ready to slap back down, and tree fall down, when you get close to finishing the cut. Sharp blade required!

That's a nice drone. The wife got me the Phantom 4 for Christmas last year. They're fun to fly but the cows don't like it much. I've tried to take videos of them grazing but as soon as they hear it coming it's like a stampede to get away from it. Lol

It's cool to see the place with the barns, fences and pastures from high above.

Well I dont have any cows... and yes its a neat perspective for sure! That Phantom 4 is a nice drone as well!

I think that is one of the reasons that I am hesitant to move to SC (brother).

Well bring a couple with you and you can let them go here!

I do like when the rootball sits back down, but not while I am standing on one of the trunks to cut another!!

Yea Loaderman. I'm guessing here but you can see the strip that I think got ripped off when it stood up. Pretty near at the end of a cut so he was right there. A dangerous place to be working for sure. Glad it worked out OK this time.
