Both my Grandmothers were born in the 1880's, so you MIGHT say they were born during reconstruction, but I'm pretty sure my
GGrandmothers were born during reconstruction, particularly since they were all from Kentucky and parts thereabouts.

My IPad used to do the same thing... use an apostrophe and it goes all crazy!

The solution: go into settings, under 'general'. Then go down to 'keyboards'.
Under keyboards, turn off "auto correction", turn off "smart punctuation", and turn off "." Shortcut.

That will stop the crazy figures and symbols from showing up. Hope this helps you out....
