I once ticked off a persistent salesman who kept calling me at work. Then the nut started calling me at home at all hours simply harassing, cursing, and threatening. Got a little scary. There's some deranged people out there.

My phone has a "block" button which sends calls from that number directly to the answering machine. (Yes, I still have one)
Even with that though, I still get several calls every day.

I get many a day because I have a land line. I don't get cell reception due to my remote location and need the land line. I installed caller ID to know who is calling and don't answer the unknown numbers and let the machine answer them. Today I reached the boiling point when I was woke up at 5 AM by one and there were 5 more in the next few hours. These foreigner accented jerks don't stop even though I am on the don't call list.
They use my area code and local 3 digit number disguising their location and when I call them back the number has been disconnected? I finally lost patience and when Rajah called again I kept him on the phone long enough to put on my hearing protection and give him a blast from my air horn. My ears are still ringing and I wonder how his are? Anyone have a better solution to my problem they wish to share? I know I am not the only one here to be bothered by these jerks?

No . . . actually you're in the same situation as me, cell does not work here unless I am standing in the middle of our road which is a 1/4 mile away . . . now my land line which is fiber optics :confused2: . . . works fantastic but like you I can get a lot of "the calls" why they ran the fiber optics up my road (the doondocks) state of the art these days I have no idea . . . b u t back to your original question I make a game show out of it . . . THEY hang up on me.

Same here 2 or 3 a day...

Calls that I don't recognize generally go straight to voicemail, if I do answer and it's a warranty or something I tell them and I have a 1985 Volvo and that is my only car. After that they usually hang up...

Exactly, I do the same (the button) but like you some get past it :confused3:.

I have had the same Aaron but they still call back and the caller labels it "this is the second and last time" for you to aquire this insurance . . . :cool2:

Here is a list of tractor brands. Print it and leave it by your phone.

Whenever you get a spam call, answer with one name, instead of "Hello." Read 3-5 random tractor names every time a response is logical.

I feel for you Viking. We were getting 40-50 of these calls in a 2 week period when we were away from home at our summer place. They were clogging up the digital answering machines capacity such that real calls from Doctors, Dentists, Veterinarians, were not saved. I solved this problem 100% by doing the following. I made the incoming greeting message so long that only a real person with a true need to talk to us will sit through it.

"Hello, thank-you for your call. The following instructions will not be repeated- Please listen carefully. At the tone, please leave a detailed message containing your name, the firm or organization which you represent, and the nature of your need to talk with one of us. Please be assured that if we are here and recognize your voice we will pick up right away, if possible. If, however, we do not receive the requested information regarding name, firm or organization, and reason for call you can be certain that your message will go straight to the electronic wastebasket. Good-bye."

This really works! In the 2 years that we have been using this strategy there has only been one message left on the machine that was not from a legitimate person known to us. The words are not important. The software employed by the robo callers won't allow them to sit unproductive while your greeting drones on!

How many legitimate calls do you also miss though? I get annoyed when I call a business and hear "Welcome to ACME Products. Thank you for your call. This is Stephanie, How may I help you?" A simple "ACME Products is sufficient, and if a company values your time they'll forgo all of the other BS.

Unlike the OP, we have cell service. 99% of our calls are received via cell. I really don’t think we have missed any!
