About 15 years ago my wife said we deserved a brand new tractor so off we went on a quest for the perfect tractor.

We were looking for a heavily built commercial type tractor in the 30 to 75 HP range, category II 3pt, decent remote hydraulic flow, big sheltered operator platform & beefy independent PTO - and we wanted all these features in packed into a handy smallish compact 4wd size frame.

We couldn't find anything to suit at the major brands. Then after some months of weekend looking we stopped by the Kubota dealer. We were really just being diligent, and not really expectng anything but one more of the same. And then there was the color.... Persimmon orange may be a lucky color in Japan, but it is little bit odd when snuggled up to the traditionally colored machines of the western USA.

But to our astonishment Kubota had just what we were looking for in their TLB line! Not one model, but several sizes and all reasonably priced compared to what we had been looking at. Smooth running, smooth operation. Came with a full set of options. It tested out better than we expected, so bought their low hour demo M59 right off the dealer's lot. That M59 has been a blessing. It has exceeded expectations in all ways. This is one of those tools you look back and just smile at how lucky you were to have found it. A keeper.

Me??? It was love at first sight. My first was in 1987, an L2250 fel and backhoe. Then, an L2550 in 03, and the saga continues... There simply is no other brand for me.

Mine was my B3350, I know I know, I was ignorant of the problems and it was a great tractor for 710 hrs, now I have a lx3310, hoping for many years of work and play.

I owned a Ford 3400 TLB for 33 years, and had just refurbished it, I then decided at 78 years old, I would like a more modern machine to play with.
I initially fell in love with the JD 110 TLB, but after due diligence, decided that the spotty history of JD 110 TLB cracked transmission cases was more risk than I wanted to absorb.
I began looking for a low time Kubota L48 TLB.

It took me 7 months to find THE one, but I eventually found it, from an original owner in coastal Maine.
A 350 mile drive with my 20' equipment trailer, brought it home for me.
A 2006 machine, with 251 total hours.

I am 80 now, and just like walking by it, sitting in my barn.
A magnificent piece of equipment! (I compounded out the slight beginnings of Mary Kay pink)
More than I wanted to pay, but quite likely is worth even a bit more, now 19 months later.

Kubota R510 wheel loader. I saw one parked at a Union Gas Yard some years earlier and was just impressed.

I bought 6 acres in the Pocono Mountains back in 1979 and built a house. I needed a small tractor to move building materials, do some excavating and mow the surrounding 4 acres. I was going to buy a Case 646 with FEL but got a better price on a Kubota B7100HST from a local dealer that just picked up the Kubota line. Kubota was relatively unknown at the time in my rural farm community and their prices were set low to get a foothold in the market. Anyway, the 7100 was MUCH more machine than the Case and I don't regret the choice.

Now, 41 years and 6 Kubota's later, I've expanded the estate to 21 acres which I maintain with my current MX5800HST and L6060HSTC tractors.

Wow, bh - it came with a wife and everything - you scored!

I was thinking about this thread today and my wife and I were talking about how we sure do like our tractors & in fact we like all of our machinery on the homestead. Every one has been a good to us one way or the other. And she wondered if our next one will be a Kubota?

.... and that got me to thinking.....

Probably not. There's not a thing in the world wrong with the M59; it has been our go-to machine for work & chores for almost 15 years now. We use it for everything and it is always ready for more. It just couldn't be much better.

But I get curious about machinery and always want to see what the latest tweak looks like.... & how this new generation of mechanical designers is handling the same old mechanical problems.

We didn't have a Kubota until we got this one - and it has been great! Following the same logic, if we hadn't switched from JD to Kubota we would have never known how good these orange ones work.
And that's reason enough to continue trying something different.
We will never know how good the next machine will be until we try one.
