As a backup to my heat pump, I have a through the wall vented propane heater.
It operates on convection only; does not require electricity.
It is fed by a 500 gal. storage tank located 20 feet from the house.

I would like to tie in to the line coming in to the heater to operate
a propane camping type cook stove for power outages.

What fittings/hoses, etc. would I need and would the regulator
on the storage tank work for the camp stove ?

If you stove uses 1 pound cylinders I suggest you buy DOZYANT 4 Feet Propane Adapter Hose 1 lb to 20 4Feet, Black & Gold color 738770835989 | eBay or one with same ends and hook up to your grill bottle rather than tapping line in house. If you must hook to the house line, buy this and a Female POL x 1/4 male NPT adapter. Since you didn't tell me what kind of fittings are on heater line, you are on your own going from wall outlet to the 1/4 NPT . They have neccessary pipe fittings at hardware or big box stores. If your stove doesn't use 1 pound cylinders,I'd have to know more information.

I already have that exact adapter hose that I bought several years ago but never used;
the one end screws into the camp stove and the other end screws into a propane tank.

I found out that my local hardware store has the necessary brass tee.
My pipe coming into the house is 1/2" npt.
The tee that the hardware store has is 1/2" npt female on the two opposing ends and
the middle opening is a female propane fitting, just like the fitting ON a 20 lb. propane tank.

Using a short nipple with the tee, I can easily insert the tee into the incoming line
and then the hose into the tee and into the camp stove.

The regulator on the propane bulk tank,(if I remember correctly) is set to about 10" water column.

I'm thinking that it would probably be safer to tie into the heater
line rather than to have a 20 lb. propane tank inside the house.

I would keep the shutoff on line off when not using the heater or the camp stove.

Am i missing something, or does this sound like a plan.
(The idea is for extended power outages or for a total off grid situation.

Is a camping stove safe to use indoors? I know most propane grills are not safe indoors. Is the same true for a camp stove?

Well, I imagine it's just as safe as a gas range; especially when used just intermittently
and keeping the shutoff valve off when not in use.

Your stove and hose are both rated for up to tank pressure. (Pressure is the same inside a 1 pound cylinder as in 500 gallon tank). The regulator on stove can use tank pressure or anything below, including 10psi. You should be good to go.
