That's the problem... people treat it as a "Set it and forget it" control. While that may work on flat ground you have to pay attention to maintain your speed on hills.

None of them do, which I've ever used. When you come to a hill your speed drops until the engine downshifts; then it races to get back up to speed. Depending on the hill I press down the accelerator before the vehicle starts slowing; engage "tow-haul", or downshift.

Toyota Tundra... It's plus or minus 6 mph. I don't even use it any more unless I'm real tired...

I got behind one tonight... I was set at 55, they were going a bit faster. Yet on every GD hill I would come up behind them and slow to 45...
I've got a 5.3, which has all of the power I need. I just need to pay attention to my driving...
I had a Dakota years ago which would add 1mph every time that it downshifted. I would set it at 55 and drive along not worrying about it, after a while I'd think "those trees are going by awfully fast"... I'd look down and find I was doing 65. :laughing:

There's more to it than just power. I drive an F250 diesel so I think I've got plenty of power, but on our 100' tall hills out here it does the same thing that Jstpssng describes. I think it has to do with the predictive power (or lack there of) of the software that controls the throttle and braking (I've had it apply brakes instead of downshifting when going down one particular hill).

I have a simple answer for that; the law also states "Keep right except to pass." It's also against the law in many states to speed up if somebody's trying to pass you, but that would be a tough one to enforce.

Ultimately, the law I pay attention to is that of physics; "Two solid objects can't occupy the same space at the same time."

Oh they can but their shoes change dramatically.

My new truck has that smart cruise control where it can maintain distance and slow/accelerate automatically. It works very well but really highlights the inability of other people to maintain speed. Quite a few people yo-yo speed while I am just cruising along at constant speed. I don't get it.

Sorry, some of us are driving old non cruise control trucks, let alone smart cruise control.

Driverless cars with "google" in charge that will solve the problem.

Do they drive the speed limit or a little over? Who would pay the speeding ticket if there were one?

I think when it comes to driving, some people are just plain jerks.
Don't like anyone in front, don't like to be passed.

I got fed up and passed someone on the other side of the (empty) road who was doing 30 in a 45 since I almost got rear ended by a person coming around the bend behind us.
Guy was cursing me out, didn't think he was dangerous doing 15 below the speed limit.
He did have quite a few dents in the back of the car, sure he thought he was not the cause, it's those stupid people doing close to the speed limit!

Pass them all the time, when it can be done safely.
