When I bought my grapple it came with 1/2 male ag couplers, but my 3rd function has 1/4 male and female couplers at the loader end. In order to use it immediately when I got it, the only local solution I could come up with was to get a female ag coupler then bush that down to 1/4" and then a nipple to the 1/4 coupler. The added adapter was an extra 6+" of awkward strain and weight cantilevered out from the loader frame. I want to finally get this completed to my satisfaction by cutting out all the excess fittings and couplers. The difficult part was that the grapple hoses are a 1/2 male BSPP fitting and the most common 1/4 coupler to match the tractor wants 1/4 male NPT.

What I need is an adapter that is 1/2 female BSPP on one end and 1/4 male NPT on the other one. Traction didn't have a listing for that combination when I got everything, and I'm not having a ton of luck finding them online, but hose / pipe fittings are often hard to get through search engines easily. So far the only listing i have found is one place on EBAY out of China. It's no big deal to wait a month or two for them, but if any of you have a go-to source that you use that has a couple of this fitting in stock I'd appreciate it. I've searched the listings for each online place I've come across and nothing yet. Since I know this fitting exists I want to go this way and not use any more multiple combos of fittings to reach the goal.

Take the hoses to a hydraulic supply store and get the right ends put on the hose.

Take the hoses to a hydraulic supply store and get the right ends put on the hose.

Tried that first... I've been to a couple around here that i could reach during business hours and they only want to put ends on new hoses that they make, or possibly if they can tell the hose is from the same manufacturer that their hose / fittings are from I might be able to get them to do it. This implement was made in Lithuania, and the two I talked to so far won't touch the hoses. I'm certainly no expert on hydraulic hoses, but do they work to a different hose spec on the other side of the world? Metric maybe? Hate to say it, but with the schedule I work mail order or big box are the only convenient options a lot of the time. When I did the adapter route back this summer I asked about making entire new hoses. They would have had to order the fittings in anyways, and they quoted me in excess of $100 for the two hoses. $20 or less for two fittings seems to be a smarter choice than throwing out two brand new hoses.

Have you tried McMaster-Carr, ...online?

The only way I see you can do this is with TWO adapter fittings.
TWO OPTIONS:

OPTION ONE: P/N 9037-04-06 this is 1/4" Male NPTF and 3/8 Female BSPP. To this add P/N 9039-06-08 this is 3/8 Male BSPP to 1/2 Female BSPP

OPTION TWO P/N 9007-08-04 This is 1/2 Male BSPP and 1/4 Male NPTF. To this add P/N 9043-08-08 this is 1/2 BSPP Female to 1/2 Female BSPP

P/Ns are from DiscountHydraulichose.com

Thanks for the potential solutions so far. Most of them I had already been to and checked out, and still nothing in a one-piece solution. I'll give it a few days, but I'll probably end up placing the order to China since it's the only place I have found that has the fitting combination of 1/2 female BSPP to 1/4 male NPT in one adapter so far.

Are the BSPP fittings on the cylinder? If not what are those? Might be easier just to get new 1/4" hoses made and replace the oddballs ones. Otherwise when/if you damage one hose, you will be back to square one.

I'd be happy to quote you on two hoses and couplers, probably cheaper than you think.

I am with KennyD, get rid of the BSPP. I would also get rid of NPTF fittings, in favor of JIC or ORFS

I get the feeling they were upselling you.
Big trend these days.
Shucks I probably have them in my odd sod box.

Kind of hard to get rid of them, because the cylinder on the grapple is also sourced in Europe so that's got the same thread too, and I'm not replacing a cylinder and two hoses because I don't like a fitting. My homemade 3PH log splitter I made 10 years ago has all NPT hoses, elbows, and control valve... My Wallenstein chipper from 10 or so years ago also has NPT hoses control, and flow valves... come to think of it, i don't know whether I've ever seen a splitter control valve or flow valve that wasn't NPT. I love you guys for the knowledge, but sometimes the solutions to a simple question are so over the top that I don't know what to do other than shake my head.

I was only hoping that any of you who had a preferred online supplier would check for the adapter and provide me a US seller's site that I hadn't found on my own to avoid mail ordering from China, but I guess there's some stuff that just isn't easy to find here. I had to buy a fan for a TEFC motor on Amazon shipped from China last year, so I guess I'll do the same for these fittings.

One way is using discount Hyd hose part no. 9097-08-08 1/2" bsp female x 1/2" npt male adapter and attaching a 5405-04-08 1/4" npt male x 1/2" npt female adapter to it.

You have a source for a 1/2" female BSPP to 1/4" male NPT in one fitting? If you do please let me know. I just placed the order for the only one i had found last night. I'm now waiting 2 to 6 weeks for the slow boat from China. I am hoping it comes as advertised but just in case I like to have a backup plan.

Yes, exact.... plus I could weld up something special too if I could come up with the #8FBSPP female. Most female stuff I carry is weld ons for cylinder barrels, but do not have 8FBSPP.

Thanks. If these fittings aren't as advertised I may be getting in touch with you.

Finally, the unobtanium fittings arrived this past Monday and I got the grapple in the garage tonight to get everything hooked up. I am a little concerned at the small hex diameter of the adapter vs. the sealing washer, but I'll have to wait to the weekend to see daylight and test it out.

Nice hope it works out for you...

My new grapple is not hooked up yet, had to get hose ends changed for proper couplers.
Am modifying it to have grease zerks, and am using brass wear/pivot pins instead of the steel pins it came with.
Too cold now, but am looking forward to hooking it up to my L48 soon.
