Do it all the time too. You have to excercise common sense. Nothing like a squeeky clean engine.

I have more questions about cleaning greasy bearings actually.

So do I. In fact all my farm tractor engines. my pickup truck engine. the lawnmower engines are all always clean and dirt free. Transmissions too. I hate handling grimy stuff. Besides, if you have an oil leak it's easy to see. I just don't use a pencil point nozzle, always a wide fan spray tip and I use a good cleaner / degreaser like Zep. I clean my greasy bearings in my hot bath ultrasonic cleaner and I use Berryman's chem tool and then pressure repack with a double cone bearing repacker.

If they are behind seals or just a bushing, I spray degreaser around it and use a plastic bristle brush to scrub. I use the purple stuff with the minimum water. (I do this before pressure washing) After washing: Re-grease to make sure no water got behind the seal or into the bushing.

If you're talking about washing the grease out of a free bearing, I use a solvent (naphtha usually) and an old paint brush to work the old grease out. Blow dry and make sure no debris is left behind. Pack with grease and reinstall.

I'm concerned with getting water in the bearings.

If cleaning end of season, one should clean the bearings, apply grease and run it again. WIth a lot of equipment, who can do that? Usually a big rush to get everything cleaned and inside. Sometimes in a snow storm!

Youtube is no different than any other site, you can watch what you want and skip what you don't want. No one promised anything on the internet to ever be true, (you can check that on Facebook and at least one other forum if you don't believe me). Andrew is informative and entertaining, to those who follow him. I like his channel, look forward to the repairs.

I like Andrews channel. I don’t think his latest video is his best work though...I don’t know know how he didn’t break the bell housing on his D4.

Just to be clear. Is Camarata a member here? I don't understand the warning (From the management) about insulting another member, BUT, if a member did have a youtube channel, does that mean we can't say bad stuff about it here?

Two or three people here tend to constantly throw some snarky comments towards Mike and his family from Outdoors with the Morgans, which is a member here. The management did delete those posts on this thread though.

Snarky to say the least. Some of those comments are actually way over board.

Actually, having read tons of comments on Bit chute lately, I can appreciate the general civility here.

I agree. That was indeed a hard video to watch. He would either crack the bellhousing, or have pieces from the starter nose fall around the flywheel. Could get messy really fast.

In the end, I'm sure the old starter would just need a good cleaning, new brushes, good lubrification and was good to go. I've done it several times.

Yes, while watching the video, I said to myself "ohhhh, no".
