If you keep 'em hooked to a "Battery Minder" or "Battery Tender" or such, you will be impressed with the increased longevity.

I bought a high dollar ($250) BatteryMinder back about 10 years ago, and it gets rotated between all of our batteries. If I remember to do so, each battery gets a few days a month. That schedule is probably not optimal, but just doing that much has increased battery life from about 4 years to more than twice that.

I had a screw type disconnect on a couple of batteries. The first one was made who knows where but the second was made in the USA. The second one lasted for decades. I don't use it because I don't have a vehicle that needs it.

In the last 11 years I have yet to put my BatteryMinder on the battery that came with my Kubota. One of the keys is if something doesn't start right off don't run the battery down so low it can't turn the engine over. The last battery I had that went bad was from a cell inside it failing. Most likely the jarring from the backhoe did it in. Next spring when I replace it I'll get a gel type (or maybe even a lithium Ion battery).

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Gel batteries. They are finicky about charging: they like a slightly lower charge and float voltage than standard flooded lead-acid batteries, and can be damaged if those voltages are too high. If you are looking for an upgrade from flooded lead-acid, go with an AGM over a gel any day (They are not the same thing).

Everstart Maxx (Walmart) is the best bang for the buck in the battery market!

Yep, I got 11 years of service from an Everstart in my RTV-900. The small print on the battery indicated it was manufactured by Johnson Controls. Put another Everstart back in.

Because of the high turnover rate, they are fresh.

Bought my first Ody$$ey Battery today for the wifes car. Sure hope it is worth it. I have mostly Optimas but they did not have a configuration that fit the cables without extending them.

Those high end batteries are just too expensive for my taste.

I had 2 in a truck were old when I got them 15 yrs ago. I didn't look when I replaced them but they had to be near 20 yrs. Never had a hard life but sat a lot.

Sitting a lot is a hard life for a battery, unless you have a maintainer on it. The only thing worse is deep cycling it, especially if you leave it partially or fully discharged for an extended period.
