Just received the DVD of "The Prisoner of Zenda" (both 1937 and 1952 versions)
I've never seen the '52 version, but the 1937 version is a rip-roaring adventure with Ronald Colman any many other well known faces, if not names from the 1930's. A great swashbuckler!
Although I've seen it 2 or 3 times on TCM...I just had to have it in my collection and expect to watch it this coming weekend!

Try these on for size:

Sunset Boulevard.

I *think* I recall seeing that movie. Was she being gently escorted to the funny farm in that scene?

I haven't seen the movie in many years, but as I recall, they were coming to arrest her, and she thought she was a star again, and they were filming the finale of a great movie.

I screened the latest Tom Hanks film 'News of the World' last evening...I'd give it a ho hum rating but then I'm not a Hanks fan...It tends to drag some and the action scenes are over done...as for the plot/character ( a guy that travels around the South West reading newspaper stories to crowds he attracts) he does not seem to have a polished show (like he's new at the trade) and his back story takes a while to come out...
I'd wait until it can be streamed for free or a couple of dollars not worth much more IMO...

I thought there was a bad movies thread, but I can't seem to find it. I just watched The Horse Soldiers (1959). It's a John Wayne movie set during the Civil War. It was rated well, but I found it to be too corny and unrealistic, even for a John Wayne movie.

Perhaps dedicated John Wayne fans would disagree, but I gave it a thumbs down.

I watched the 1937 version of "The Prisoner of Zenda"...boy!, What a great flick...watched it twice, in fact.
The 1952 version came in the same DVD container...couldn't get through the first 30 minutes... The '52 version used the same screenplay as the '37 version...even was in color ('37 version is B&W). Just proves the actors make the movie, at least in some cases.

Started watching the '37 version of "Lost Horizon" this evening...too tired to continue (up and at it at 0200 this morning)

It's a shame there is lost footage in 'Lost Horizon'...glad technology has made it so this never happens again...
