I believe you are referring to Inland Marine policy. It's sort of a hybrid policy that covers equipment that is portable but not licensed for road use. Lots of variations.
Forklifts, dozers, tractors, etc.

When i asked I was told " as long as you don't use it to make money (aka a business) and it doesn't leave your property it's covered". Years later when I asked for details (which was like pulling teeth) I was amazed at what wasn't covered. I actually got into an argument with my agent and found a new agent over this and another issue. An inland marine policy can be pricey. Often they are set up assuming you are a business and your equipment is going to be used daily so it's at a higher risk than what it may really be at. A good agent will work to find you the correct policy while a bad one will just sell you something.

I am quoted 500 for the year, I asked what is and isn't covered and I was given a bunch of bull documents that doesn't answer ANYTHING I asked. Going back and forth with my guy via email so not too much of a hassle. But holy **** when I call and tell you I am buying things and I want them covered why wouldn't the guy sell me insurance that covers what I would be doing. Its more expensive, he would make more off of it....

My L4060 is insured on my homeowner's policy for fire, natural disaster, vandalism, and theft. Anything I do to it is not covered, and there is no coverage when off the property.

This is also my case exactly. Same with the ATV’s and zero turn.

I added the inland marine. It will cover most anything but wear and tear and regular maintenance. It will cover off property as well, and as I've had it down to the neighbors and brothers before that is good to have.

I specifically asked my agent in an email: "If I accidentally drive it into the pond it's covered?" She said, in writing, "Yes." That told me a lot.
It is listed on the schedule of my farm policy with its own additional premium. Too many if, ands, or buts in the written 30 page policy for me to understand.

Surely you jest......but...
After making a claim, the likely response would be...."of course it was covered in water...what did you think"?
I DO NOT TRUST MOST INSURANCE COMPANIES!

They just love to distort intent!
Perhaps better might be..... Is it covered for loss if I drive it in the water, on either sunny days, cloudy days, rainy days, snowy days, or at night?
