Did it come like that, or is it OldPath installed? My old Fransgard had a ferrule to keep it from coming undone. The best way to keep from doing what I did though, is to avoid pulling with the tractor when at the end of the cable. It seems like I may have learned that lesson once before with one of my old winches...

Yeah that's original 07 Fransgard winch, all it it is is a 3/4"x1/2" 1"-ish steel block with 1/4"set screw and 8mm hole going through it for cable. But the method of getting to the spool has been upgraded and modified, sometimes I wonder what design engineers of equipment are thinking when they make stuff.....

I'm not sure what year mine was, but it was "old" when I bought it in 2002. It was a challenge to find one used... back then I subscribed to "Uncle Henry's" so when they released it on Thursdays I could get online and check it at about 3:00 AM. I was working in Gorham NH that week but took the day off and drove to Brunswick (ME) to buy it.

You are probably right, now that team "sniff and blow" has taken over, there will be plenty of fake news to watch! lol

SR

Heck, I quit watching the news, too depressing and nobody does anything about anything anyway!

I have a small steel block with set screw on my spool it keeps cable from coming off spool as long as that set screw is tight.

The wire rope on my Wallenstein is very easy to replace and it's held on the drum with a couple bolts, so you can't pull it all out and off it.

Easy to get to too...

But in both cases, you are supposed to leave at least several wraps on the drum when pulling a load.

That's true, but my point is, you can't pull it off of/out of, the drum and if needed, it's easy to replace...
