L4740 engine side cover/skirt holder alternatives

Perhaps the most poorly designed parts on my Kubota are the side cover/skirt holders, retainers, and holder receptacles
Made of cheap plastic not to mention expensive as ****
Has anyone come up with a better alternative?
Don't feel like paying $14.01, $0.69, and $10.17 for a set

aside from the price I think they are a great design. Sure beats JD's lets bolt on all the grills and side skirts on so people will have to go to the dealer to check the oil unless they are handy with a wrench.

I do agree the price is a little much I will be that much more careful with them in the future.

you could probably replace them with a flange nut and a bolt. you may have to use a washer to cover the hole.

Not sure of your year. On the B26 and M59 the quarter turn locking bolts, spring and nut are all metal. Nothing fancy. No problem with removing, installing or coming loose. Might check with the difference in parts at your friendly Kubota parts dealer. Never had to replace any but probably expensive like any parts.

I feel your pain for the significantly overpriced plastic pin that is worth $0.35.

Perhaps converting to dzus 1/4 turn fastener would work. Amazon.com : Quarter Turn Fasteners

My L4240HSTC uses metal for the side shields;fasteners.

Pretty sure my L5240 is metal for all, but I still don't like the system. The hooks on the bottom are decent, but the quarter turns are not very good, IMO. The clips come loose too easily and they don't line up very well.

interesting, mine are plastic quarter turn locking pieces and mine is a late model 4740 sold in dec 2012. I wonder if they used to be metal and then switched to plastic later on.
