How do you measure your Vitimin D level?

Part of a full Laboratory workup!
Either at the VA, or private,.... such as Quest.
My most recent one was Dr. prescription for Quest.

Re: How痴 Eddie?

Your vitamin D level is measured with a simple blood test that is usually covered with medicare or your insurance. This is what my test looked like after using vitamin d a few months.
Component Your Value Standard Range Flag
Vit D, 25-Hydroxy 42 ng/mL 30 - 96 ng/mL
Vitamin D deficiency.........<10 ng/mL
Vitamin D insufficiency......10-29 ng/mL
Vitamin D sufficiency........> or equal to 30 ng/mL
Vitamin D toxicity............>100 ng/mL

Although I do believe that vitamin D helps, I am always skeptical of many statistics such as those taken in Britain. Surely there were more people not taking vitamin D who got the virus than ones who took vitamin D, but is that because there are not that many people taking vitamin D as those not taking it. Also, Britain and Germany are not sunny countries like Spain and Italy so Britains do not get as much vitamin D from sunlight so they probably need vitamin D more than those in sunny countries.

Re: How痴 Eddie?

My vitamin D level is 47.6, well above the minimum recommended of 30.
I had Moderna shot #1 two weeks ago, and will have shot# 2 in 15 days.
Dr. Campbell is entitled to his opinion, but I am not willing to bet that a vitamin D level of 47.6 will keep me safe.
I am 80 years old, and am very happy to get the vaccine!

At your age you should get the jab.

However, having a proper vitamin D level helps one for other respiratory illnesses, such as good ole pneumonia, which at your age, should be a concern. Since you have a good vitamin D level, you are in a good place.

It is not Dr. Campbell's opinion, he is talking about findings in a study.

In the link I posted, the study was from UK data, however, Dr. Campbell has other videos discussing studies from other countries. There are studies out there that indicate that low levels of vitamin D lead to far worse out comes, include death, compared to people with great than 30 ng/ml of vitamin D in their blood.

In the study in the video, there was a control group, and the study had a very high chance of being correct, well over 95%. While Spain is further south, than say the UK, it is a who cares in winter. During the winter, once one gets north of about 36/37 degrees north, which is a bit north of the NC/VA border, you can spend all day out in the sun, without a stitch of clothes, and you will not get enough vitamin D from the sun. Most of Spain and Italy is north of 36 degrees north.

Other countries, including countries that have plenty of sun, still have vitamin D deficiency issues in the population. Here is a link with maps, Is vitamin D deficiency a major global public health
problem?

Elderly people, there is a map of this in the link, really have issues with vitamin D levels in their blood.

When I went for a check up years ago, my doctor, bless him, made sure the blood work checked my vitamin D level. I would have sworn that I had proper levels due to my diet and sun exposure. My level was 17.

Later,
Dan

Re: How痴 Eddie?

The reason I did was because I care for my 87 year old mom and work in health care I could bring Covid home.

Had it not been for Mom I would have waited

In 30 years this July I have not missed a day of work out sick or injured... Only advice Doc gives is keep doing what you are doing... it's worked so far...

A few years ago I was at the point of resigning over a battery of injections I was to get with the merger...

The Hospital agreed to a Titer test which proved I did not need any of what they were forcing... as for flu it was as simple as wearing a mask... no problem then and less now...

At a point in my ancient history, I was not allowed the option of refusing vaccines.
Uncle Sam sent me to some rather unique areas, and as a result (years ago), It seems as though I may have had nearly every vaccine known to man.

I did my yearly labs in January and assumed my vitamin D level would be tested. I was wrong!

I guess I should inquire if my insurance will cover it and if not, how much it would cost.

I do want to be in the right threshold but I don’t take anything, not even vitamins and I’d rather not start unless my vitamin D is low.

I’m really fortunate, all my numbers came back really good.

I’m looking at many of my past blood workups, don’t see vit D listed.

My Vitamin D was 63 in late December. Had to ask Dr to check my level. Previous blood draws had not checked it going back 4 years.
