We watched it at work today; had a vested interest. My company manufactured and supported the balancing machine that measured the rover and various other spacecraft configurations used during the cruise and decent phases. Awesome to see it all work.

We can get a rover to Mars but getting a package from the street to my porch seems to be more difficult.

I was amazed at how soon after touch down - they got the first pictures at JPL. Not the most interesting pic - tire and shadow of the rover. Can only imagine how that JPL team felt when it was a confirmed successful landing.

That's a bunch of cash...for what? To dig some holes and look at some rocks? With no magnetic field the planet will never support life as there is no protection against solar winds etc. I could sell them some rocks for a slight discount. :laughing:
