Thanks for sharing James. The video brought out several good points, some I knew and some that I didn't (probably more that I didn't). Certainly worth the time to watch.

Yes, I have shot scatterguns for years in competition, but never a pump. I own many pump-guns for home defense but always shot an autoloader in competition. I am always amazed at guys that can "pullrack" a pump-gun as fast as I can shoot an auto. Got to love that.

Yeah, he seems to have things pretty well under control.

These are the guys that renew my faith in mankind; sharing their hard earned wit, wisdom, and craft with the rest of us. God bless them.

I have a Remington 870 that I bought back in the 80s that's been great. I mostly use it now for coyotes, foxes and racoons that are going after my chickens. 3 inch buck shot works a lot better then anything else that I've tried.

He knows his stuff, but I’ve never found shooting a shotgun to be THAT complicated.

Have you ever shot in competition?

shooting in competition with others is a humbling experience.

It sure was for me. I had used firearms all my life, and the first time I stood up to the line and the timer went off, I discovered I didn't know anything. Most of my so called skills I had acquired throughout my lifetime of shooting were mostly reduced to "bad habits". No, until you shoot in competition, you just don't know what you don't know.

Yeah, I hear what your saying.
Like all the people commenting on TBN. They might have a lifetime of tractor experience, but how many have ever competitively tractor pulled?

Not me. But I have been to a lot of them. Some of them big ones rattle the internal organs in your body when they go by with the Nitro Methane flames shooting 10 feet high

I use side saddles for our home defense shotguns. 6 extra shells right where you need them...if you need them. Fumbling for shells will get you killed and you want the shortest movement possible.

There are videos of how competitive 3 Gun shooters handle reloads. Worth watching

I learned to shoot fast in Cowboy Action and was pretty good with both the pump and double barrel. Here is video of a pretty little lady shooting an 1897:

BTW, use dummy shells to practice with. I would spend about 30 minutes a day and saw a huge speed improvement in a month. Muscle memory is important. Dummy shells are cheap and you can practice in your living room. NEVER HAVE LOADED ROUNDS IN THE SAME ROOM WHEN PRACTICING. I made mine for next to nothing as I reload but you can buy them for a few dollars.
