Three day challenge

Al-Anon is for the loved ones of a family member, to help them accept that they can't change the alcoholic. I don't know much more about it, or even remember why I was looking into it years ago. (probably because of some past gf.) Yet I do recall that it's for loved ones of a drunk who can't or won't help himself. He does not have to participate.

This thread sure has taken a turn from light to serious... but that isn't a bad thing.

Totally agree. Remember though there are different populations of drinkers. You and I can make jokes about Red, White and Blue a nd Dixie beer. If it is bad enough, we won't drink. Others will drink that and a lot worse.

Anybody ever drank Wiedeman's? It was the cheapest beer I've ever tried. The hangover kicked in by the fourth or fifth bottle, usually before you ran out.

I split a 12 pk with a guy and we walked of the 7th tee & left because we ran out and were ready to fall out & crash. Is there a shudder emoji?

(btw, I'm ready for rehab.)

Well, speaking as somebody who was a paramedic from years past, I could tell you that technically he has to be of right mind to refuse treatment/transport. Allowing him to refuse treatment while he's blasted but needs help, that's just begging to get your emt license pulled and possibly brought up before a judge in tort court.
Gene that law may vary from state to state. Our state, and my information is from physicians, paramedics, ER drs., police, etc.,to repeat...he cannot be taken from his home by force. He has committed no crime.
In our state it's not illegal for someone of age to drink as much as the wish in their own home.
I can't imagine living where any "authority" has the right to enter my home telling me when I've had enough.
The only way he could be taken by force is someone (wife, family member) would have to lie to authorities saying he was threatening them or himself (via suicide).
That was actually one of my plans suggested by a police officer. (Police officers aren't attorneys either). The downside of that is twofold: 1) he can only be held for evaluation only for a finite amount of time.
2) I risk getting in trouble committing perjury.

Al-anon...we've known since childhood about alcoholism. It would serve me no purpose.
Years ago before retirement I discovered our area AA center was across street from work.
I walked over, got literature and had talks with former alcoholics, the counselors.

You didn't finish the front 9! There might have been a hole in one out there with your name on it!

Wiedeman's and Drewery's were the beer of choice for us in high school. Terrible stuff, but cheap and available was the name of the game back then.

That's a Cincinnati beer. Yes. My mother's family is from Cincinnati and it was at every social gathering there.

Drewery's originated here in South Bend. Just as Wiedeman's was popular in Cincinnati, Drewery's was popular here. G. Hellman bought them out in the late 60's, closed the brewery here, knocked huge holes in the side of the building, removed all the copper boilers, piping, etc... and the building stood as an eyesore for 45 years. Someone bought the building, started tearing it down, stopped, and it's still an eyesore to this day. Bummer.

They used to have the big Drewery's sign painted on the plant. I still have good memories of the smell of brewing beer. :)

Yes, Wiedeman's was in Newportl, KY., across the river from Cincinnati, and has been considered part of the Cincinnati metro area since forever.

Interesting that they merged with G. Heileman in 1967. Looking into it a bit more, G. Hellman bought Drewerry's in 1972 and closed it down.
