Three day challenge

It looks like he's committing suicide or worse to me.
Very true. The same could be said of anything considered unhealthy: tobacco, junk food, lack of exercise, obesity, chemicals (Roundup, bleach)...list goes on.

I think he should be committed if he's drinking Roundup.

I disagree with that. By definition: Suicide is death caused by injuring oneself with the intent to die.

Most people that eat a Moon Pie aren't intending on killing themselves.

It might not be good for them, but they have no intention of committing suicide.

I'm sorry people missed my point.
Having a glass of wine once a month won't harm as anyone, same as a Moon Pie.
Conversely if ones diet is ONLY Moon Pies that could be considered suicide and a person may live a few years.
My brother didn't just start drinking alcohol, it takes years getting to that point.
We were told getting him in rehab all it would take is a family member putting a knife within arms reach claiming he threatened suicide or harming others.
Authorities are not allowed telling you you can't eat four boxes of Moon Pies, smoking 5 packs of cigarettes or drinking 5 bottles of wine a day. That could be considered suicide but does not reach that standard.
I believe my brother will be dead within a couple years. There's nothing anyone can legally do about that.

That's a new one for me, saying that moon pies are as dangerous as alcohol. I think education is the best policy. Obviously it's too late for your brother.
I think education is the best policy. My parents didn't drink alcohol and educated me and my siblings on the consequences of drinking alcohol. They pointed out people that had ruined their career and life due to alcohol consumption. The biggest thing they stressed was that there was no benefit to alcohol consumption, so I have no family members in the situation that your brother is in.
I would say the best thing you could do is convince others to stop providing alcohol to him.

Yes, Wiedeman's was in Newportl, KY., across the river from Cincinnati, and has been considered part of the Cincinnati metro area since forever.

Interesting that they merged with G. Heileman in 1967. Looking into it a bit more, G. Hellman bought Drewerry's in 1972 and closed it down.

Heileman, I believe, was created by purchasing many many smaller breweries all over the US. They had a multitude of brands.

I think he should be committed if he's drinking Roundup.

He doesn't control his brother. I have a brother whose drinking has caused him many legal, financial and health problems over the years not to mention the heartache for the family. He has attended state mandated alcohol and anger management courses. He continues to drink despite these interventions and our pleas. The bottom line is that, his brother and mine, are responsible for their behaviors.

Again, I'll say that if someone eats only junk food, while it may look like they're killing themselves, it's not suicide unless death is the intention.

So while they may in fact be slowly killing themselves through poor nutrition, it cannot be called suicide without the intent.

While it all sounds like semantics, it's not.

I would say the best thing you could do is convince others to stop providing alcohol to him.

But the doctors have convinced the family that without alcohol he would die of DT. So to the family alcohol is the medicine that is keeping him alive. I think the family needs a doctor that will stop the alcohol and give assistance while he is going through DTs. Take the risk, for a better quality of life, death is eminent anyway.
