There was just an article in the NY Times. 90,000 packages are stolen in NYC each day. 90,000 per DAY. It's hard to get your mind around that. I couldn't read the entire article, but apparently a large number of shipments are stolen multiple times. After they steal the first one, they wait for the replacement and steal it too.

That is amazing. The same NYT article said there are 1.7 million packages stole or lost every day in the US.

I had a great uncle in New Jersey worked at a loading dock many years ago, groceries, they were always getting stuff stolen. Uncle said they had to have been paying a worker for inside information, they were too slick.
One day the boss put up cameras, expensive and new for back then.
Next day they were robbed! Ah ha! Boss thought...we got em on film!!!!!
They checked the film, the robbers had taped cardboard over their truck license plate and all thieves wore ski masks!!!!!

They did leave ONE item on the loading dock though...a big summer sausage sticking straight up.

Wow. I assume car jacking is a much higher level crime than stealing a package off a porch.

Probably just arrest 'em though, so the judge can turn 'em loose!

My heart goes out to folks whose porches are so close to sidewalk or street as to be easily scouted and robbed.

Laws or not, thievery is pretty low and too far down the list of priorities for real life LE resources.

Yep, around here the LEO's are more preoccupied with catalytic converters, some of which are very costly.

City listed a phone # and a BOLO.
Problem is with Covid masks and battery powered tools a converter is gone in about 2 minutes without seeing who did the deed.
Add that the perp's vehicle usually has the tags obscured .

Covering it is obsolete. Thieves have this now.

Well...here's what evil me would do!
Take a nice big cardboard box. Cut a piece of cardboard a little smaller than box (thin plywood even better). Use four springs one each corner or 4 heavy duty rubber bands would work. Springs under, rubber bands on top. Push this plate down to bottom, held in place each side with a needle or pin.
To test it put balled up newspaper, tennis balls, etc in it. Close top...pull pins out.
Be sure opening it stuff flys everywhere.
Now the fun begins!
Push plate down, install pins, only now fill it with poop. That's right, cat, dog, people...whatever is handy! Close top, tape it closed, pull pins out...she's ready to fly!
