My tractor has R1 ("ag") tires, with aggressive tread. Works great in mud and mowing brush, but tears up the lawn, which my wife does not like 😬. For finish mowing, especially when the ground is soft/damp, any ideas aside from swapping out the tires?

I was thinking it could be possible to make tire covers out of old carpet, and attach them around the tires similar to snow chains. Before trying this crazy idea, wondering if anyone else has tried it? Any products like this out there?

Any other suggestions how to do finish mowing on a lawn with R1 tires without tearing it up?

Thanks in advance!

Try taking wider and slower turns.

^^^^... reduce weight and don't use 4WD.

Buy a riding mower. When my lawns' wet even the R4s on the Branson would tear it up, and compact the soil much more than the riding mower does.

Thanks, Eric M -- I guess you are right, and others have offered similar advice. It seems the tractor may not be the best tool for mowing in these conditions. I'll see what can be done about a dedicated mower in this case then. Thanks for your help.

I think you know the answer to the Question ..... get a lawn mower.... A zero turn would be a the top of the list...... jim

I mow about 2-1/2 acres with a 60" zero turn. I actually got rid of the turf tires and went with an R1 type tire for the zero turn.
The turf tire would tend to tear the lawn up more and get stuck in slight damp grass.
