IMO there's an issue of clinging to old values, esp the churches being cut way too much slack as though they are infallible.
My problem with folks being 'more Christian' (I've heard some declare it) is that they seem to agree mostly on what they don't like vs what they do. (human rights conflict between denominations) Welcome to the United States of Christian arrogance.
Apologies if this sounds political, but IMO taking the Bible too literally constrains the ability to understand the many metaphors inculcated but in our modern times.
Jesus did not speak of Heaven and Hades, but of redemption and forgiveness. His teachings are of compassion and love for all of us, not of judging each other to our own social standards. He ravaged the temples where folks took money to pray for someone. How would he look on us now?
IMO a hallmark of our culture is hubris. We should know better. Stealers gonna steal, they always have and always will. We have to live with the times or can die in despair.
