re Why you don't use your real name online. ... ... Some of you have heard this story.

In the ancient times Fidonet and Usenet participants posted with their real names. I have a few old posts about Y2K planning nonsense that are likely still visible in archives of alt.folklore.urban and alt.folklore.computers. Likewise there were old posts in the Yahoo Subaru and Trooper groups, before those were shut down last year.

Then - The summer before I created an account here, I started receiving bounce messages from ISP's, 'Recipient Unknown'. 10,000 of them!

Somebody had harvested my email and used it in the 'Reply To' field for his Viagra spam. Every other field in the bounces I received was unique - Posting IP, From, etc. Every 'From' was unique, none were me. All the text was unique in each message so far as I investigated except for the Viagra vendor url.

There were a couple of replies from real people, the one I remember was something like 'How dare you reveal our personal life on my State Government official email account!!!' with a footer showing she was in the tourism branch for a Southern state. :) Sorry lady. Musta been some otherbody.

I've used this 'Where's Waldo?' username ever since.

If a Drone is obeying the law regarding maximum flying height, which is 400ft, and it flies over your house he's in "my 400ft airspace". You'll need something more effective than a 60yd turkey gun.

You are correct. My son has some old Estes rockets and motors in the basement.
I feel that these will have sufficient range. Just need to work on the proximity fuse.

Okay, so let me understand this. You decide to shoot down a Drone with a rocket/mortar. You miss. The rocket/mortar shrapnels your neighbors house. Does the Drone owner have to pay for that damage?

If I was looking for a covert way of taking out a drone...I would spring for the $100 and get a jammer...even if it's not legal prudent use could go undetected ...you can buy them on the net...

I believe you are SOL unless you know what frequency the drone is operating on. So long as the operator is not flying in restricted airspace and you harm the drone in any way, you become 100% liable for the damage to the quadcopter as well as any type of injury the operator sustains and I would not hesitate to sue your pants off if I was flying it. In fact, I'd enjoy it.

How could you prove your case?

I believe what got this drone thing going was someone commented about drones peeping in windows.
Based on that scenario it is in restricted airspace. And while it would be fun to blast one out of the sky I think /pine has an interesting idea.
Finding the channel for the drone is no biggie, crooks use cheap receivers to catch garage door channels all the time.
Unless you bragged about it, proof as two_bit_score said would be hard to find. Drones crash all the time.
As for being sued, in this case the drone owner would be liable for crashing his drone into someones property.

With this being said I could care less about someone flying a drone over my place if it was a couple hundred feet high like its suppose to be.
Hell if they want to see my ass all they gotta do is ask. I’ll send them a signed 8x10.

Most decent drones will self stabilize if they loose command signal. Nicer drones will also return to their launch location via GPS when they loose command signal. So you need to jam multiple frequencies. Harder to do & messing with GPS will get the feds after you way faster than jamming 2.4ghz.
