Working rail roads and their tracks.

Something I enjoyed immensely when riding Canadian rails was the smoothness of the ride compared to once crossing back into MI. It'd be nice to see that level of track maintenance here in the Eastern States. Didn't need passports when I crossed the Border many times in the '60s and '70s, even once in '99 when I entered through Windsor and drove back through Sarnia.

Buffet would never sell BNSF. He's making way too much on the oil trains.
They tried to buy BNSF before Berkshire Hathaway owned it. The sale was blocked by U.S. antitrust in 2000.

Funny how that works, isn’t it?

I want to take a long train ride, haven't taken one since '83 to Toronto & back. Riding the 'Sunset Limited' and 'Empire Builder' has always been in my dreams. There's a 4-day trip across Canada that I could pick up North of Mackinac and take the rest of the way West to the coast. btw, bye bye Algoma Central and Junction Valley railroads.

The real nice ride is the railroad tour from Calgary across the mountains to Vancouver - but ridiculously expensive! And in my view, so much more fun to drive it. I’ve driven it many times myself, in my youth. (Grew up in Calgary.)

Did you like the series?
Yeah. Guy looks like he has a dream and is following up. I stopped watching after they went to an auction to buy some equipment. I might pick it up again from there.

The history of railroads in US is fascinating. It’s great reading.

We lived in St. Charles, MO when my wife owned a tennis club. It was inside an old Steel Shop used by ACF in the 1920-1950 to build railroad passenger cars - primarily for MoPac.

ACF employed more than 50% of the people in St. Charles at one time. The facilities dominated down town. And ACF wasn’t a railroad - they supplied cars to the railroads.

Then came autos, trucks and planes and - well, railroads and railroad suppliers were never the same.

We have the most beautiful, meandering river-paralleling railroads here. Really fun to watch em run

I found the TV series Men Who Built America interesting. It ties in how the early railroads, oil, and steel industries were interconnected. Barons Vanderbilt, Carnegie, JP Morgan & Rockefeller.
