Massey Ferguson 130, 165, 285, 2705, 1150
Good morning everyone,

I am new here so let me introduce myself - I am just getting into collecting vintage Massey Ferguson tractors. I've already got quite a few, most of them between 25 and 85 HP, some larger and newer.

I just picked up a Massey Ferguson 130 which was built in France (for the North American market). I don't know much about this particular model, so I'm just wondering if anyone on here might have some insight they could share with me about the 130. I don't see many (never seen one) around, so I assume they weren't that popular to begin with. Does anyone know how they fit in with the 135 (why did they both exist at the same time?) and perhaps a rough idea of how many were produced? Stuff like that.

Are there any common problems with the 130s? I am mechanically inclined and have gone through mine already. Everything works, including all the lights, and it is mechanically sound right now with ~2500 hrs. Just wondering what I should watch out for in the future.

Thank you for any help or information in advance!

Well, it started as the Mf25 then it was called 30 and ended with 130, was a total separate model, wry little in common with the rest of the family.

Why MF was building it I don't know but there was also a MF133, a Mf135 with a smaller engine. Might be tax or demand for driver license that made this marked as the physical size of all three are more or less the same.

In the seventies MF moved more and more of its productions from England to France and to day the MF factories in Coventry are demolished.

Thanks for the replies all - and nice to "meet" you. I'm from Canada.

The insight you've both provided is helpful. I'm very interested in learning more about this particular machine.

In regards to the various models - something that confuses me is that in North America, we don't have any licensing for tractors so I don't see that as a reason to bring the 130 in from France. Also, the 135, 165, etc., from what I understand were built in Detroit for our market, while the 130 was built in France. It puzzles me why they would go to the trouble of shipping/importing them...

My friends 130 was a vineyard model, and it was a pretty good tractor.

The Perkins diesel used very little fuel and the tractor had decent power for it's size, he always wished it had power steering.

I've seen a couple other 130 vineyard models around here too...

I'm not sure exactly which model mine is. It is definitely something (row crop?) it is quite tall (tall/skinny tires) but normal width.

Pictures of the machine?

She's spent some time outdoors...

I have her in the paint shop right now.

The machine has no leaks and runs very nicely once started, however, it is hard starting. I have it stored in a heated shop and it still requires use of the Thermostart (glow plug) or being plugged in to get it going. I'm inexperienced with indirect injection. Is this "normal" for these (obviously it is an old engine), or should I pursue an engine overhaul?

Good morning from a rather cold England, in looking to help someone else with questions on the MF 130 I came across your post
Firstly let me explain my connections with the MF 130
10/12 years ago I used to do a lot of dating of tractors for owners of Ferguson/Massey Ferguson tractors and still do for their tractors, I came across a request to date a MF 130 from Texas who had one but no one had replied to his posting for help. At the time I had not heard of one so set about trying to date it for him, this took 6 months to research and I learnt a lot along the way about the MF 130, after numerous emails with the use of a translation web site to Tractor Forum sites in France I finally got the answer to the serial number which was for a 1966 tractor
This led to me buying a MF 130 tractor for £700-00 which was in Norfolk UK, I went up to collect it and had a little drive on it and the deal was done.
This tractor was Red & Grey but I soon found out it had been over sprayed and had been originally Yellow and in fact it was the industrial version of the MF 130 which was the MF 2130,
This on investigation proved to be a very rare tractor as according to the records I have, it was only produced for 4 years 1965 to 1968 and in the last 3 years of production only 49 were built,
I still don't know how many were built in the first year but I estimate less than 50
I now keep records of all know MF 2130 and to date I know of only 11 and 2 of those are in America

As any owner of a MF 130 will know the parts for them are extremely hard to obtain, It took me 4 years to finally restore mine which included me buying another MF 130 tractor with a blown engine to finally get enough parts to get it back to show condition
I take the tractor to a number of shows both Vintage Steam Shows and Agricultural Show throughout the year and the tractor has won many cups for best tractor, (its always nice to get some recognition for the hours of work )
Now I'm retired I can go to more shows and go from show to show during the summer months and can be away from home for a month at a time

Now that I have retired I now research both new and second hand parts for the MF 130 and sell them on eBay, I get many requests for the hard to find parts and I gladly try to help obtain them from both sources here in England and in France and Germany. Since Brexit postage is more difficult from Europe as many firms have stopped postage to England however my daughter lives in Germany and I get them posted to her and she forwards them on

If I can be of any help to you and other owners then I am only to pleased to help

If you need your tractor dated then just email me the serial number as I now have all dates and serial numbers for most of the French built Massey Ferguson

I am attaching a couple of pictures (hopefully) the first is as I bought it (the left one) the other is the donor tractor

Regards

Bob UK
