Im thinking of BUYING A NEW TRUCK..

I bought my only new vehicle, a 2006 F150 XLT in October 2015. Been taking great care of it, and it has been nearly trouble free in the 230K miles I have on it now. Other than a radiator, fuel pump controller (under warranty) and intake manifold gaskets, only normal wear parts like brakes and tires have needed replacement.
I paid $23K for it then, a new one similarly speced is right at $40K.
Of course, it's an oddball, standard cab, long bed, 2 wheel drive and 4.6L V8.

It sounds to me like a personal decision that has to depend on your priorities and long-term financial situation.

One thing that helped me was to develop a projection of spending, income, investment return, and the amount of money I plan to have each year for the rest of my estimated lifespan. Then I ran that plan by my financial advisor to check whether my assumptions were reasonable.

If I am considering a large and unnecessary purchase, part of the decision is how I'm doing compared to the plan. If I'm well ahead, then maybe it's OK to splurge. If I'm running behind, then now is probably not the time.

Good luck with your decision. If you buy the truck, you have to post a picture, or we won't believe it's real.

What you really need to ask is what type of tires. Should it be green or orange? Transmission?

I went through the same dilemma when I retired a few years ago. I could easily afford it...but should I? I decided yes.
This will probably be, at my age, the last new truck I buy. Since I was in no hurry I ordered EXACTLY what I wanted - tan interior color (DETEST the black so many new vehicle interiors are these days), 120v outlet, rear locker, 36 gallon tank, etc. After all the rebates the price came to ~ $10,000 off MSRP.

I had to wait 10 weeks to get the truck (built in 3 weeks, 7 weeks "in transit") but worth it. I broke the truck in right, and it has treated me right. It will be 5 years old in another month - and has never been in the shop for any reason. Change the oil and rotate the tires is all I've done to it. All the power I could ever want and overall fuel mileage since I've owned it is 20.9 mpg.

Could I have saved a few bucks by buying used? Maybe. Bought a lot of used vehicles in my lifetime but seems they all had their issues...buying someone else's troubles? - that I had to spend money to fix. Having a problem-free, reliable rig made the purchase of this F150 well worth it to me.

Go for it!!!!! I saved for a very long time and purchased a brand new Ram 2500 Power Wagon.

My thoughts - I'm not getting any younger- I can finally afford it- I've always wanted a Power Wagon.

I didn't buy the PW because it gets fantastic mileage, it's not a world class hauler- I got it for PURE FUN.

My little brown Cocker Spaniel and I have taken wonderful trips. We both enjoy this vehicle to the fullest.

I bought my F150 Lariat 4 years ago when I retired. Ordered it exactly the way I wanted it. It now has only 25,000 miles and I haven't regretted it for one second. Great truck.
