There is only one person I will lend my equipment to. He has a ton of his own equipment and it is rare that he needs something I have and he doesn’t. He takes care of his stuff like I do. He has plenty of money and wouldn’t blink an eye at replacing anything he messed up.

Well, it certainly seems that this borrowing business can result in a lot of angst. A lot of unfortunate stories here, and in many cases it is a judgement call.
With cheap stuff, who cares, but with a tractor or boat or ATV or truck, it can be a minefield. Probably better not to lend, for several reasons, not the least of which is that it can destroy a relationship!
For me, no one borrows my tractor or truck, and for the atvs or jetskis, only if my daughter is right there with them, and for younger people I go through a testing/training session first. And if they get insulted (no one has), tough beans!
Daughter is coming up with boyfriend in a couple of days. He will be tested. Daughter is nervous as a cat, LOL!

My neighbor let us borrow his chainsaw today as we had a rather large tree topple over last night in a storm.
I had my 2 sons over to help and only have 2 saws. He saw us and offered.
I returned the saw this evening after we got done along with a new 20” chain I already had in the barn. He wouldn’t accept the chain but I insisted. I said we worked it pretty good snd I didn’t have time to sharpen.
I thanked him as we probably wouldn’t have got finished with only 2 cutters and the boys gave to go to work tomorrow.
Sometimes it all works out perfectly. It was a sunny day today.

I let a kid use a push mower, I was with him but a few hundred ft away. . He had no idea what he was doing and stalled it in high grass. He immediately turned the mower over and ruined the engine quicker than I could check on why it stalled.

I wouldn't let a kid borrow it if he didn't know how to use it. Good way for the kids to get hurt and you sued.

Unfortunately the same could be said of some adults -- and figuring out who does and doesn't know how to use tools, or power equipment isn't exactly straight forward from what I've seen.
A side effect of a disposable culture mindset I guess

Yep, the “kid” was driving age, old enough to know how to use it.
