NH TC45 PTO problems

It been awhile since posting. I have a new problem with my TC45d. My PTO does not seem to have any muscle. It turns on and spins but if it gets loaded it just stops. When tilling I have to lift the 3 point then it will start to turn again. I replaced my PTO clutch 300 hours ago because the brake was broken so I don’t suspect a worn PTO clutch. The fluid is clean and full. FEL 3 point and hydrostatic seem to be working fine. Its just the PTO. Before tearing things apart I am looking for ideas where to start. Filter ? PTO control valve ?

Quick update. The problem seems to get worse when the machine warms up. I took apart the PTO relief valve and cleaned it as well as the PTO control valve. Nothing remarkable was noted on inspection so i reassembled it and the problem still exists. I also took apart my main pressure relief valve and cleaned it but it too looked fine. Tomorrow I am going to get a set of gauges to check PTO control valve pressure as well as the main pressure at the main hydraulic valve.

Here is the next step to getting nowhere. I got gauges to test the systems. The main hydraulic system tests at 2500 psi at the rear remotes so I pretty much eliminated the hydraulic pump as the problem. I then tested at the PTO control valve by removing a plug on the valve. 70 psi. Not enough. Should be 200-230 if memory serves me right . So I removed the PTO valve and tubes. One O ring was shot. Great here is the problem. 4 New O rings installed today. Pressure up to 120 psi. Bummer. Not what I was hoping. trying To avoid a complete tear down until I know for sure it’s the PTO clutch. I really don’t think it is since it only has around 300 hours on it but I am having trouble isolating where. Relief valve? Spool valve ? They all Look good but who knows. Next test is at the down stream side of the hydraulic control valve for the PTO. if this tests fine then I know it’s the clutch. Anybody have any ideas ? Thanks

Well I finally decided to go deep and tear it down. I did all my pressure tests and tried adjusting relief valves etc with no improvement. My main hydraulic pressure was fine at 2600. The PTO control valve would not come above 120psi and would drop fast as soon as it warmed up.

I got into the PTO clutch and found 2 of the 3 hydraulic seals were shot. They basically fell apart in my hand when I pulled the clutch. Pretty sure this is the problem but can’t rule out a pressure relief valve until I get it back together. Seals and a few gaskets from Messicks for around $200 shipped. Each little seal was $50 !! Could not source locally. Another costly New Holland part that should be half that if it were any other brand.

I am going to look into my oil choices because this should not have happened in 300 hours. Could have been defective seals from the factory too. Here are a few pics. I will update when it’s all back together.

Hmmmm Both my Kubota's are externally adjustable for clutch pressure.

I have been using STP multi trac. I am going to switch to Traveller. Pics attached

yes the pressures are adjustable externally from the pressure relief valve but those do no good if the rings that seal against the fluid are shot. It just lets the fluid past the clutch not applying pressure to the clutch discs

Any tips or tricks to removing the PTO control valve? My shaft broke and I'm going to try a DIY weld repair before spending 1k on a new one. Just have no idea what's underneath it!

Dont use that crap oil. Get the new holland stuff. Your alreaty having wet clutch problems. Hydraulic oil spec is made by the manufacturer. So this means any oil manufacturer can say there hydraulic oil meets the spec but there no 3rd party to check it. Unlike engine oil and the API.
