Good morning!!!!

The deer were back under the solar panels yesterday, laying right on top of the deer repellent I'd spread the day before. Maybe I'm supposed to wet it down? I'll have to dig up the instructions, or maybe file for a refund.

Just curious - what repellent was it ?

We are having those same conversations. MD is high taxes, no gun rights, but yet pretty and generally low crime in the country. I would like to move to the farm in OH, wife not keen on it. We keep talking TN also, or southern VA.
We've at various times over the years talked about Arizona, Colorado (though, they've since removed themselves as a possibility), and Texas. Some closer to home ideas are Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri. Most seem much friendlier to their citizens than our current state.

Like you, and probably all states, once you get out of the bigger cities, Illinois is a pretty nice place with good people and low crime.

67°F and no rain.

Same plan as yesterday, just pick up where I left off.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

She is probably right.... about moving in general... why take on new expenses, high costs of services to build a new homestead, and 'start over' again. Everything here is paid in full. It will provide us the opportunity to go and see the country in the RV at our leisure.... I a beginning to believe in her thoughts of 'staying put'.
My wife and I decided that traveling with a Motorhome was better than selling our house. We got 12 years before her health made us stop. At times I worry about taking care of my place will be a problem as I get older.

Come on down!

We are considering waynesboro va area. That way we are still near her mom when she needs help. I want to be near skyline for hiking.

Hope that improves for you in (very) short order.

Been on baby aspirin for at least the last 7 years.

In addition to bleeding like a stuck pig at the drop of a hat, I noticed that I tend to bruise more easily as well.

AFAIC, it just goes with the territory at this point.
Sure sounds like me. It seems I can't even mow the yard anymore without having to stop and ask the wife to bring me a bandaid, or else I get blood all over my clothes; sometimes without even knowing I've broken the skin and started bleeding. And of course ugly bruises are just a fact of life.

Over the years I've been in at least some part of every state but Hawaii. And while I've found something to like in every state, I was born in Oklahoma, lived most of my life in Texas, and the only other state in which I really thought I'd like to live is Arizona. We liked it so much that I seriously considered settling there. But now . . . . well, in spite of the rapidly growing over population, horrible traffic, and such, I reckon we'll be staying right here the rest of our lives.

Horrible traffic is everywhere.

Horrible traffic is everywhere.

To be honest, traffic here has been light ever since COVID. It’s picked up a little, but nothing like before the virus. We may be getting a little spoiled. Rare to have a traffic jam.

In Tampa, where we go often, traffic is unbelievable. It’s busy night and day!

I like the NC sauce when in NC, but not my favorite, but still good. In AR they have minced pork sandwiches with slaw on that are really good. In general, any bbq is good.

At least one house destroyed in WV from this storm, and trees and wires down just south of my house. We never got much wind, just heavy rain. Total 3.57”, we did need rain.

True Eastern Carolina BBQ is dry rub with the vinegar based sauce added to taste and it will be served with coleslaw on it.

Yeah, pretty much all of the "usual" spots around the STL area have been jam-free for the last year. I can't say I hate that part of it. No more painfully slow approaches to all the bridges getting back into Illinois, and I can drive the speed limit all the way both directions.

To Bird's point, though, every time I've driven through the DFW area, traffic has been a nightmare. All the perpetual construction on the LBJ doesn't help either. The worst was passing through on a Friday evening when there was a Mavericks and a Stars game in town, and it was raining. Berated ourselves for not choosing 35W for that trip.

"How far off, I sat and wondered..."
When lightening strikes the Tempest Weather station alerts you on your pad/phone/watch and tells you the distance up to 25 miles away. It also keeps track of how many lightening strikes. While we were at FireWise this morning I received two alerts on my watch of lightening 24 miles away. I did not hear them but the weather radar did confirm them. I was about a mile away from the weather station. If you can get a phone signal you can get an alert from the station.

While I was doing that, around midnight (in the garage, with the door up), some creature started making noises - sounded like it was just on the other side of the van - which was about 40' away from me. Suspect it may have been a deer, sounded kinda similar to this:

So I walked over towards the van and shined my flashlight inbetween the van and house and caught a glimpse of something making tracks around towards the back, but I couldn't really make out what it was. I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me the willies ...
That sounds an awful lot like the gray fox barking. It makes several sounds, and that is very much like one of them.

Just had a very heavy downpour. I don’t measure how much rain we get, but seems like we have gotten a decent amount since Sunday night. Ground sounded like I was walking on a sponge near the garage this morning.

It is 69 now, only supposed to go down to 53 tonight.

MoKelly - compared to dogs, cats are aliens. They exist in their own universe. They let you share it with them. Just remember, cats consider you to be their domestic help.

Actually made some progress on the trailer last night. Finally. Hopefully tonight there is more progress.

We just went thru the discussion about moving once we retire. Delaware shore, western NC/eastern TN, etc. having a place paid for in a state with relatively acceptable property taxes makes a big difference. We are planning on staying here

Everyone stay safe out there

It's called Deer Scram.

I just sent them an email asking for instructions, and if they'll honor their guarantee if I can't get it to work.

We use deer out, works well until it rains. ( do not get this on you, or it will repel humans too :) )
I also use coffee grounds (after making coffee). Works for a few days in a pinch.

Mo, when a cat rolls onto its' back and exposes its' belly, it is saying that it trusts you. That doesn't necessarily mean that it wants its' belly rubbed. I've paid in blood many times for that mistake.
When cat wags it's tail doesn't always has the same meaning as dog.
