Hey All,

Anybody have insight on a Ford 5500 Backhoe hydraulic fitting?

I blew my boom lift line. One end appears to be JIC 12 Female and the other JIC 14 Female. The 14 size seem to be an oddball. Unfortunately i'm up North and those that fix this stuff know less than I do, so I need to confirm what I have.

Machine is a 70' maybe, the hoses are all original Im sure so I will have more failing in the future. Would like to figure a plan.

Try Messick's 1-877-260-3528
There are fittings listed a -14 JIC, I can't tell which hose you need, maybe you can from the drawing?
Drawing is from Messick's
You can get -14 female swivel JIC crimp on hose ends to have hoses made from hydraulic supply companies.

Confirmed as 14 JIC, the solution is to build straight #12 hoses and they sell 14 to 12 adapters. All good. Next question. What is the little t handle in the bottom of the picture. it comes out and is just a long rod with a bent end. not in a fluid reservoir or anything.

Start a new thread for this. Some one that knows may not see it in Hydraulics.

The T handle is for the parking brake. Push brakes down pull up on handle. Release brakes and they will be held down.
To release just stomp on the brakes and the brakes will release.
This is assuming the parking brake equipment is functioning.

-14 is not an oddball fitting. ITs just a different size and any full service shop that does hydraulics should have them.

ITs quite common on alot of backhoes and loaders to upsize the fittings one size. Less restriction. The 5500 has ALOT of -12 hoses with -14 fittings.

You might get away with an adapter on a loader hose. But Id find a competent source for -14 hose ends because when working on alot of the hoses on the backhoe and the valve under the seat....adding an adapter to an already cramped area is gonna be a nightmare.

And yes, the Tee handle is the park brake. Push brakes, and pull that up and turn 90 degrees IIRC
