BX25 Rear Wheel Fell Off!

Every time I use my machines I have a routine: check oil, coolant, hydro fluids, and lug nuts.

I don't check them with a torque wrench, but I do see if they'll spin by hand.

I do a pre-trip on my vehicles a few times a week. I've caught so many things that could've left me on the side of the road or worse caused an accident over the years.

Witness marks and locktite are imperative when you have wheel spacers so while I was marking the back of the bolts that hole the spacers on I figured WTH and I marked all the lugs and nuts.

I'm even consider myself a little **** about such things, but then I'm also a little OCD. I also check everything before using my tractor as well. I call them "preflight checks."

But, they are smart enough to come here and ask for help from us. (y)
Well, the thick-skinned ones do. Many people just get tired of getting slagged on all the time and stop posting and asking questions. Ask me how I know. It’s just so tiresome to read posts that say “shoulda checked your wheel torque every day, dumba55.”

Really tiresome.

I probably don't check the lug nut torque on anything I own more than once in a decade.
Although if I take the wheel off for any reason, I'll often check torque the next day after I put it back on .... and again the next time or two I use it.

I ask dumb questions all the time. Those answers that are less than civil don’t bother me as I consider the source. Too bad Mohammed doesn’t block those folks.

If he did that, this would be a very lonely place.

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. If people have such low self esteem that, the only place they feel adequate is on a Tractor Forum picking on newbies, they can have at it.

Besides, it's human nature. People are 'herd' animals. They feel safe in a group and those that feel 'accepted' in here like to pick on the new guys a bit. Just like on the farm. Introduce a new cow, a new chicken, a new goat to the herd/flock and you'll understand. As long as it doesn't get too out of hand, I can tolerate it. I'd say that this forum is top notch when it comes to most of the people in it.

Some years back I had a rear wheel fall off a fairly new Kubota. As I came to find out, the Kubotas are shipped from Japan without wheels. Wheels are added by the dealer or the local distributor, since there are so many possible options for rim sizes and tires. In this case, the lug nuts had not been tightened correctly, although what actually failed was the rim. So this was an error at the dealer, followed by my error in not checking lug nuts.

If the bolt holes in the rim are visibly worn or out of round the rim is junk. Under the circumstances the chances of it being serviceable are very slim. Ditto the lug bolts.

I have owned three Kubotas over the past 20-30 years. I have never torqued a wheel
