Does not turn out that way -- as far as the Nukes. Only thing 250-300 nukes would get US is Broke.

At this point we have under 100 US reactors and dropping, and many of those are not profitable. We will probably be down to about 50 or maybe less of the existing by 2050, with few-to-none built in the meantime.
There are currently 55 nuclear power plants operating in the US and they supply 20% of all the electricity.

Modern thorium cycle nuclear plants promise to be smaller and more widely distributed than the old water cooled behemoths. They are also meltdown proof and create much less radioactive waste.

But let’s not ignore the great unwashed there, either. And there’s like a billion of them…
One of these decades they all will have running water.

Consider India -- they consider themselves imposed upon because they are being "forced" to move on from a culture of Open Defecation.
Downtown Seattle has open defecation, why shouldn't India?:rolleyes:

You should have seen the 70s.
Seen em? I lived through them.…several cops shot not far from me.
It’s worse now. The Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle riots of 2020 are worse.

Fair enough; but to paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, we should not bind future generations to the here and now...
Thomas Jefferson certainly was not around for the modern day EV And he obviously was not referring to them in the referenced quote. Maybe you can stay on topic?

It's a good thread, try not to run it into the ground, please.

Wow. So tire preservative additive is the culprit. Seems like it might be easier to mandate different rubber formulation, compared to capturing runoff everywhere.
Even before this discovery, they knew how toxic street and highway runoff is. Have you seen the engine drippings dissolve the asphalt in parking places? That's just residual drip from stopped engines. The real leaks happen when the engine is running and the oil is hot and under pressure. Then there is the plastic and other trash that the litterbugs throw on the streets and roads. Phasing out plastic film bags and soft drink straws didn't do much to solve that problem.

At least EVs don't use engine oil. Maybe that and reformulating tire chemistry will help.

The front 3 or so parking stalls at almost any auto parts store is a good example of what oil does to asphalt.

Yeah, so you follow that the measuring of unit of "plants" has no real meaning? Some sites or plants have only 1 reactor, some as many as 6 or even one has 8, irrc.

So we take the number of reactors x the typical reactor size of around 1E9 (some are a little bigger), and we can get the scope of the overall capacity.

I think the top number for the US was something like 104 reactors, and now down to 94 and most consider "Peak Nukes" for US was about 2012, and things have been winding downward, since.

EIA has some decent coverage >>> U.S. nuclear industry - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

Most projections have US down to around 50 by 2050.

And I still live in a mixed Amish Mennonite community, for 50+ years. I DIDNT say anyone was calling ME a racist. So don’t put your words in my mouth. I said that these environmental wackos won’t listen to anyone elses point of view and if anyone DOES give a dissenting point of view, many times they are called racist, silenced, demonetized,

we are all in this together”? Ummm, no. I’m NOT in ANY movement towards socialism, and silencing, destroying or yes even imprisoning rivals to the group-think points on wacko environmentalism. Heck with that. I’m not “together” with being forced into that bs.

you and some others staying on diesel?
You mean like everything shipped you need by truck, rail or ship? You serious? ”some”? Have you seen anything much larger than a 1/2 ton pickup in EV yet? I haven’t. This country runs on fuel. The future might be electric and I actually want an electric truck, IF it’s done correctly.
How does dumping old un-recyclable battery parts from your electric cars factor into your “dumped into the commons” equation?

Dunno, overall a little drama goofy for me. But to each their own.

--------------------------

But the all-in-this-together part . . . yeah when it comes to the Commons -- that is definitely the case.

The "Common" Water, Air, Land -- all pretty much eternal from a human perspective. And all there is all we ALL have.

Some folks consider this a bit amusing . . . . did you know we all drink ******'s and Caesar's pee, and breathe air that passed through their lungs?

So for a bit of decent behavior to future folks -- we should be good to the Commons.
