Unusual ........

I googled the airport in the town listed. If I have the right one, it's a very small and narrow field that appears to be a sky diving center.

The first airport I worked at was small. Plowing snow or mowing the fields (two tasks I did not perform, but observed and rode along) were just done when able. You'd look both ways and cross the runway or you'd look both ways and make a pass down the runway with the plow. I think there was a radio in the plow, but do not recall.

I was thinking of a skydiving strip near me, after reading that article.

Few details reported so far, but it's likely she was working on airport grounds.

That said..... I've been driving down the local road that is the north boundary of the field here, and saw a plane approaching VERY low to land. Low enough it would have hit a 5 ton box truck driving down the road. I drive a street MC down that road - non riders don't appreciate how high you sit on a standard street bike, let alone a dual sport machine......

Sad loss of life any way it happened.... but it's possible she might have been cutting grass at the edge of a boundary road......

Heck, I get scared every time my neighbor has his field sprayed. I can count the rivets in the plane's panels. o_O

Spray plane operators are a different breed. In spring before they could get on it with tractors, the orchard I worked at had a plane do their spraying. I've seen him come in low across the orchard, and lift the tail up as it went over the barn to keep it from dragging.
The same guy once hooked his wheels into a power line while spraying potato fields.
Those guys were born without the bone which causes fear.

Yep. Doesn't change anything. On the field or on the road, she still got hit. Very sad.

When I was a kid, we used to drive by Grissom Air Force Base in Peru, IN. It was called Bunker Hill AFB when I was a kid. There were low flying airplane signs on the US 31 highway on the west end of the field. We saw the aftermath of an incident where a plane crushed in the roof of a Volkswagen Beetle. Yikes!

There was a crop duster crash locally back on June 20. He lived. The plane, not so much...

Lawn mowers are noisy by nature so she did not hear the plane approaching, more so as a landing plane would be powered back.
The plane in question was a low wing aircraft with very limited downward visibility, especially when turning for a tight landing.
Added is that landing strip is very narrow so the grass being mowed was up close.
The odds were about the same as for a mega jackpot.

Was on the road riding my motorsickle one time when a crop duster went over me and dropped some kind of liquid, what I assumed was, insecticide on me. There was a a field on the side of the road. Thought it was tomatoes but not sure.

Anyway, he got me good enough that I had to go back to the house and wash up.

That should buff out. :)

Off target movement or drift is not acceptable, and the operator is liable for not spraying the intended target/off the intended ownership. That may be different in Florida but I doubt it. Depending on what he was spraying, that pilot could have been criminally liable.

Can't say for sure but a photo showing the damaged wing showed a 'low wing' with a radial engine and bashed up right wing*, some sort of older trainer aircraft that I could not identify.(and I am a pilot and AME)

*consistent with what I'd imagine having struck the mower driver.

Back about 40 years ago i was flying from San Diego to El Paso. My cousin hitched a ride with us to Yuma. At the time I was landing at a controlled airport that was shared by the military. Just as I am touching down I came to a cross runway and two F4's pass over me at about 20'. Had i bounced the landing or pulled up they would have squashed me and I didn't have an ejection seat! I don't know how that could happen at a controlled airport unless a couple of flyboys were just having "fun".

Tower never said anything.

The picture Bruce posted reminds me of a Harvard, but that article refers to other trainers of perhaps later production.

I was curious about the downwards visibility issue.

There's the line about Old Pilots vs. Bold Pilots.....

Experience doesn't preclude basic or even fatal errors....
