I think it's obvious that, as a whole, we're getting softer.
It's not obvious to me.
They have no DRIVE, no DESIRE, and no PUSH.
Maybe they just simply didn't realize what they were getting into and once they knew, said, "this aint for me." No one needs to be tough for the sake of being tough. There should be a purpose and a reason to be so.

Maybe they are simply less competitive in things they are smart enough to know don't really matter.

Drive, desire, and push had nothing to do with putting us in this high tech society we are in today?

Come on guys..... lets have no debbie downers here. America, and its youth, have not gotten softer. We have gotten more "colorful." (When you live in bolivia as long as i have you dont get crazy, you get colorful)

And we have gotten nicer (its nice to be nice to the nice.)

And we are learning that we need to (be nice.......until its time not to be nice.)

First one to tell me the 3 movies/shows the lines in the parentheses come from, wins a cookie!

Political correctness, wokeism, blame everything on white imperialism, young people who have never lived under socialism/communism romanticizing marxism ideas, idolizing socialites and celebrities instead of the idea of hard work enables you. I came from a Scandinavian country that is often referred to many times as the most idyllic country to live in (albeit many many dark sides) I'm deeply disappointed in the development of America. I came here with nothing and done relatively well, but seeing local and federal guberment sowing pillows under so called underprivileged population only fosters more underprivilege. I have never owned slaves, don't know anybody that has picked cotton either. Moving on.

Interesting to me on ”conquering” is in the many history classes I took, I learned all about Spaniards, Italians, Portuguese, Greek, Roman, etc. conquerors, but almost nothing about the Moors and the conquering they did. I had no idea of the vast territories they conquered….
Why are the Moors largely left out of the ”conquering“ parts of history?
If you look closely, History is almost always biased to favorably reflect the society who is presenting the history. The American Indians, the American Hispanics, the African Americans and the European Americans all have a different vision of American history. They may share certain historic facts, but certainly have a totally different commentary. Which is most accurate? Probably none are, as each has their own biases. But some versions are definitely ignored more.

In our culture, the European American version of history dominates what is viewed as "history". Does it always accurately reflect the true nature of past events? Not necessarily. Does it place excessive emphasis on some events while ignoring other truly significant events? Definitely. The Muslim cultures of the 10th thru 14th century was far advanced compared to what was the Dark ages of the European culture. But because it is "them" and not "us", it is mostly ignored, while Roman and Greek history is highly emphasized.

Well, I see it at work and my wife sees it in school. It's not always going to be easy, and if you'd prefer to just quit, and not work hard, fall behind in school or find yourself unemployed...soft.

I'm a supervisor in a fence panel building department at a local lumber yard. We get a large percentage of employees who work harder at trying to cheat the system and get around doing what they're supposed to than they would have to work if they just did their job. They lay out, they refuse to stay on task if left alone, etc. Etc.

So sports and being physically tough? Sure that's not always necessary and it's elective, but no matter how technical our society gets, there will always be a need for grunt work and for somebody who can get their hands dirty to make it all happen.

Hmm - Yep Americans have gotten softer. Proof? Me.

In my twenties I was a bear. Myself and another laborer once unloaded a tandem dump truck with 20 tons of asphalt in less than 15 minute by hand when it blew a hydraulic line. I used coal shovels for paving work. The other guy quit that very day. My father never invested in a mini excavator or skidsteer because he had me. Bought both when I went away to college.

I went to school, got my engineering degree, and sat on my butt for the last 25 years. Yeah - I get after it on weekends, but not like I was. I'm fat, old and falling apart. And I swear its the sitting at a desk all day that is corroding me.

I don't consider that going soft though. You CAN and you WILL if you need to.

You have chosen to work smarter but it doesn't sound like you're scared of work.

Soft, to me, is when you're lazy and you won't work. Won't even try, even when it's necessary.

Another I discussed aspect of why we have grown softer- handouts.
Consider what handouts were available 100 years ago compared to now.
Those handouts make “failure an option”. When many of our ancestors came here 100 years ago, failure was NOT an option. You got off that boat and worked your tail off just to survive.
Now it’s roll out the red carpet, free this and free that. But those handouts only increase the failure level.
Heard a guy on the radio say (and I’m paraphrasing) “If anyone thinks government handouts are the way to live a good life, consider the condition of our Native Americans”.
Im sure I butchered it, but that was the thrust of what he was saying.

That’s not softer, that’s aging. Give yourself a break man. You did it when the call came.

because they lost. winners write the history

with out the moors taking spain, almost all the classical knowledge from greece etc would have been burned, like was done throughout Europe, in the name of god.

great book on that subject called, how the irish saved civilization.
