HST temps

BTW, my buddy reminds me to mention that HST do run surprisingly hot. THe heat is normal for them, and that is a large part of why HST owners pay a premium for expensive transmission/hydraulic fluid like JD HyGard or Kubota SUD2. Check the tech specs; some high dollar fluids do stand up to high heat better than the generic oils.

My Boomer 1030 has a HST and didn’t have an oil cooler and there was no optional oil cooler available either. A lower rated Boomer like the 1020 had an optional Oil cooler. 7 years went by and I got weird noises out of my HST when it was hot. Sometime the tractor would t move right either. So I sent it to the repair shop, got my HST fixed and took the opportunity to install a oil cooler. That’s been now 4 years ago and the little guy works like a champ since.

Does plowing with the hydrostat cause heat issues? I have a 28 hp I thought of plowing a few acres with it and wondered how it will do. Like I’ve said before-. I’ve ran several pieces of logging equipment and they use a lot of hydrostats and it has never been an issue. Only an advantage

My question was for Dieselmonk. Said he did a fix. What was fixed??

Basically a rebuild of the HST a with changes to incorporate an HST a cooler. It wasn’t cheap, but not crazy expensive either. Now I can work my lil tractor hard and the hydraulic oil is still getting hot, but not that crazy hot as it had gotten before. No more weird noises either.
My recommendation is to either to not get a tractor that doesn’t have an hydraulic oil cooler, or add one. It made a huge difference for me adding the cooler. Now I can run around all day in the hottest days with a 72” box blade up and down a hill without a glitch. That is a big box blade for a little tractor like that.
