I needed two 7" steel lawnmower wheels, so I checked different online places...then notice they're on Walmart site $5.99 each free shipping! So I order them...except when time to pay it tries adding $20.58 shipping!
But...it clearly says "free delivery!".
So I call 800-Walmart. Guy says it is free, but you have to order $35 in merchandise. "OK" I replied and go back looking for stuff I don't need to add to order.
I can always use construction deck screws...so I add a 5# box of them. Then since I have an RZT50 mower they have 6...that's two sets of blades for $63, so I add that. Great! Now I'm up to over $100 and I go to pay...and I get free shipping. YAY!
But not for the $5.99 wheels I needed originally. It added $20.53 shipping for that.
#$%&! Steam coming out of my ears I called 800-Walmart again. After 30 minutes on hold I get a barely-English speaking agent. After repeating story six times I ask for a supervisor. Another 20 minutes (his English was worse) I explained and he said "that's a third party seller and they can SAY free shipping but charge it anyway" then hangs up on me!
Now I'm livid...so I call back (two hours I've been fooling with this!). That guy says "Just pay for everything and I'll credit your card back in 10 days...hopefully".
We'll see...

Isn't that called False Advertising?

According to Wikipedia False advertising - Wikipedia
False advertising is described as the crime or misconduct of publishing, transmitting, or otherwise publicly circulating an advertisement containing a false, misleading, or deceptive statement, made intentionally or recklessly to promote the sale of property, goods, or services to the public.[1]

Oh Oh...

I just did the same thing for some 18 X 8.5 X 8 golf cart tires.

Free shipping over $35. Only needed 1 but @ ~32 apiece it was a no brainer to just order 2 get a matched set and the free shipping.

I have mine being sent to the local store and lay away desk.

We shall see...

Beside the $5.99 tire, you see 'Unbeatablesale' Go to the other marketplace sites and look their stuff up. Almost always considerably higher priced and with all sorts of gotchas'. I learned a long time back to avoid them.

HD does this too, sometimes find out when the store pickup email shows up after the order..

Gee. And Walmart says they can compete head-to-head with Amazon.

I guess that’s why Amazon is worth $2 trillion and Wally is worth $400 billion.

Well...here's Part 2!
I called Walmart home office in Bentonville this morning, lady sent it to "escalations". That lady said third party vendors can say free delivery but charge for shipping.
DUH? What tha?
I argued a bit then drove to Walmart, got the manager. I showed/explained everything to him, he agreed with me. Then right as we're looking at the "free delivery" listing on their site it changed! Good thing I had my screenshot and invoice! I said the home office must have changed it, luckily he saw it before they did. So he called the vendor and they offered half-price shipping! Manager said he saw the free ship listing.
Anyway I called my credit card company and they'll dispute charge since I have proof and the manager as witness.
I have had better luck with Amazon. A really crazy experience though.
Maybe most people don't check it.

I found about 4 sources online with the same kind of wheels from $7 to $10, two places I can drive to and pick up myself.

To save literally a couple of bucks, it seems like you're putting yourself through your own headache.

Nothing in life is free, and it all equals out when you're 6' under IMO.

I've been treated well by Amazon but no so by the competition. It's a constant struggle with the also-rans because they keep trying to find ways to keep 100% of every dollar you spend with them. Very frustrating.

The irony is I've never bought anything in my life from Amazon, and so far, no complaints 😁
For me, it's way to buy obscure items that no one would likely carry locally. I bought some oddball grease seals and a long length locking grease coupler to start with went from there. Wife bought some bath sized bars of Jergens soap that is not possible to find around here. Good price, free shipping and I didn't have to drive 75 miles in a truck and ask store people who don't care. Even better, it showed up a few days later.

Items on the list are puppy safe flea and tick shampoo and a couple of oddball mower tires. Neither is available around here.

Well, maybe have an update tonight.
Tracking says it is on a FedEx truck and out for delivery. Plus FedEx is located within a block of the Walmart.
Hope this works out and they actually arriving early, tried to source a set at the local farm store first, but they would also have to order the tires- and they were priced just over $50 each plus they said it could be a week shipping time.

Don't get me wrong, my wife is a Amazon prime member 😁

I've just been lucky enough where I've been able to find what I'm looking for, and I get it.

My idea isn't to save a couple of bucks, my headache starts when I am lied to. That's when I give them a headache.
Last night I contacted Walmart via chat and agent credited me $25. It's Unbeatable Sales fault and false advertising, going forward Walmart may cut relations with them.
There's a right and wrong. Money/time isn't my concern.
I'm sure you'd feel the same if you ordered the $7-$10 or drive to places tried to screw you.

Speaking of tires...these are a couple of 20x10x8s I ordered thru Walmart for one of my Cub mowers. Two gorillas with 6ft crowbars and 20# sledgehammers couldn't put them on. So I took pictures of them against REAL 20x10x8s off my cub. Walmart refunded my money and said keep them.

I completely agree with you.

That said, I've just found that when you order online, sometimes it can become a bigger headache to deal with if a mistake is made on either parties side.

Honestly, I've probably been in your shoes before, which is why I pick stuff.

I'm assuming your issue isn't with Walmart, but the third party who Walmart is using to have the product to ship?

At the end of the day, when trying to return something online, on average I'm guessing its a bigger headache to the buyer than to the shipper.

I would have paid 8 more bucks driving to home depot to pick up those two tires (they had 8 in stock locally), but I could put my hands on them, see them, and if I didn't like them, take them back with the receipt. Yes, time and gas on my end, but I drive by them on the way to work.

Like I said, I'm certain I've had steam coming out of my ears like you trying to deal with a mistake with an online order, so generally I stay away from it unless I've done business with the company before (like PSA on gun parts, where I know I'll be waiting LOL).

So what do you do with a set of tires that don't fit anything?

I try to avoid Amazon, but when so many manufacturer's site send you there it's tough sometimes. Meanwhile the hardware store I've patronised for years is trying to get me to "order online for convenience." What they don't seem to understand is that if I'm going to order online it's going to be shipped to my house; rather than drive 50 miles to their store.

Honestly, I'm dumb, I don't have this amazon thing figured out.

BUT when you live in BFE, I can understand online ordering.

Dumb question, would your local hardware store get credit if you ordered product online? When you go to their store, if they don't have it, why can't they go through thier distribution and order it? At the end of the day, even a warehouse has mark up in selling goods when they have to ship it out of the warehouse.

My local hardware store wants me to order from what they have in stock, then drive 50 miles to pick it up.
