It sounds like this could free us from using fossil fuels for making electricity and save them for other needs that will be long lasting.
They have also been working on a Molten Salt Nuclear Battery/reactor process at University of Idaho and Idaho Nuclear Lab, Idaho Falls
progress being made as of November 2020

Definitely help with China's world image, not to mention reducing air pollution. I bet they'll start selling reactors to other countries and staff them with Chinese.
India also has loads of thorium and no uranium deposits. They are also not signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, so can build as many reactors as they like. There are a lot of reasons why thorium salt reactors are safer, but not being able to make bombs is not one of them. A thorium fast breeder creates U233, which fissions even easier than U235. It's almost impossible to melt down a thorium reactor, because the reaction cross section is thermally dependent. If the reactor vessel gets too hot, a plug in the bottom melts and drains the liquid salt, so the reaction stops before causing any damage to the reactor. Somebody smart enough could probably sabotage one, but if an operator just falls asleep, not much harm done.

Additional information - it was from a University not a company.

"Here, a cost-effective chloride solid electrolyte, Li2ZrCl6, is reported. Its raw materials are several orders of magnitude cheaper than those for the state-of-the-art chloride solid electrolytes, but high ionic conductivity (0.81 mS cm–1 at room temperature), deformability, and compatibility with 4V-class cathodes are still simultaneously achieved in Li2ZrCl6."

Good point. Currently Tesla gets break through Lithium Ion battery technology from a Canadian University. Universities can generate funding income by licensing technology they patent and secure jobs for their graduates in companies like Tesla, etc.

"...In Mexico, there's the Ford Digital Store, which lets people buy a new vehicle 100 percent online."

I think Ford is waking up to the fact that if they don't start doing things more like Tesla they may not be around for the long term.

Today's 13 year olds will have Zero in haggling with a stranger on a new car lot in 2041. Like the burgers they order today they will just get a new car built to order at an established price that everyone else is paying.
