Wonder how much property is involved here. New owner says he never knew the guy was on his property. I have 80 acres and would sure know if somebody set up shop. Even on the most remote portion of my land.
How about you reach out to the guy and offer to give him a piece of your property to rebuild his homestead? As you say you would not have any trouble from him.I blame the town and the Judge.
Thirty years, no trouble from him. They should have left him alone. He certainly wouldn't have been there another thirty years.
Can’t evict if you don’t have a contract to be there in the first place! So with the eviction moratorium still in place I wonder if that judge is in violation of a federal mandate.![]()
If the owner didn’t know he was there, yet he wasn’t hiding the fact he was living there, up here they got squatters fights. And that homesteader would probably get the parcel he has been leaving on. Only takes ten years. He’s been there 30That just goes to show that any agreement should be in writing. Since the current owner is 86 years old and (allegedly) had no knowledge he was there I'm curious who he got the permission from. Also, they seem to be blaming the big, mean landowner yet it was the town who raised the issue said it was unacceptable, with sewerage issues et.al. right next to the river. The guy has been living there for 30 years, including raising vegetable gardens yet now he says that it was just a hunting camp.
This is a good one to keep in mind, the next time a discussion come up and people mention squatter's rights. It isn't as easy as some make it seem.
But he did have a contract. Verbal yes, but still recognized in a court of law. Now the original party past away and there is a new owner of the property. I think that does not make this man a squatter but rather a tenet. I believe if you buy a rental property you have to go through the eviction process to remove the tenet if you do not want to rent it out anymore. Can’t evict if you don’t have a contract to be there in the first place!

I know that in Florida, if you let someone live in your hone for a period of time they have rights even if there is not a signed agreement. If they refuse to leave you have problems. I can't remember the legal term but it is not an evictionBut he did have a contract. Verbal yes, but still recognized in a court of law. True. But a lot of the land up here isn’t taxed as it’s not serviced and ownership is so messed up that crown lands don’t even know what or who owns s what. Everyone always making claims. If they suddenly became taxed you’d soon learn who owned whatThat would teach him! Then the IRS would come after him for back taxes. The county would come after him for code violations and no building permits on his residence.
No man is an island and life just isn't that simple, IMHO.
