I confess that I don't signal before passing somebody for that reason. It gives them too much advance notice that it's time to step on the gas.
I speant 30 years on the road and it always amazed me that way too many people speed up as you try to pass.

Or, as they pass you, they get nose to nose and then stabalize their speed to stay right next to you.

It is? Strange that I have been driving for decades and I have not had a problem seeing a turn signal next to a running light. Or headlight brightness for that matter..
I've only started noticing this in the past few years. I start complaining in my head about someone not using their turn signal, but as I get closer, there it is, blinking away under or next to their daytime running light. I think the issue is that if the turn signal is placed too near the the running light, and it's not brighter than the running light, that it's about impossible to see it flashing.

And I have exceptional vision. So it's not an eye issue.

Another issue is that since there's no standardization on car lighting brightness, well, pretty much all of the new cars have unique light placement, brightness, color (or temperature) of white, etc.

Hey, when you're following someone for a couple minutes, and decide it's time to pass, and you signal, look in your mirror, look over your left shoulder, pull out and pass, and you get right up next to them, then just ahead of them, and just as you signal and start to come back in, they accelerate to prevent you from passing.

Well just keep on going in. They'll either back off or you'll hit em. Don't worry, it'll be their fault. Sure, you might get some car damage or killed or kill them, or their kids, but you'll be in the right, and that's what's most important.

Most states have something like this in their code:

"and shall not increase the speed of his vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle."

So, you're in the right. Tell St. Pete that at the pearly gates for bonus points. You'll get in faster. ;)

Actually there is a standard regulation but it is written in bureaucrat doublespeak. So unintelligible it is not being enforced. Hence the rampant LED, HID, and "super bright" retrofit market.

Is very easy to make a brighter headlight. Is very hard to keep said headlight out of the eyes of oncoming traffic.

It's not unintelligible for people that make lights for vehicles. It is profitable to make lights bright or pretty or what have you, so they just ignore the regulations and leave it up to the consumer to buy the correct ones.

BYD Delivers First Electric Cars To Customers In Norway

BYD is really the competition to Tesla at this time. BYD started out as a battery maker. It is rumored that Tesla's going to start using their blade battery in cars built in China but it's just a rumor at this point. The 3000 pound towing capacity will be a hit in Norway.
Yes, the lack of any towing capacity has been a big problem for many potential EV buyers, small trailers is incredibly common here in Norway.

There is a distance requirement: From website above -
"Each DRL not optically combined with a turn signal lamp must be located on the vehicle so that the distance from its lighted edge to the optical center of the nearest turn signal lamp is not less than 100 mm..."

That means the edge of the turn signal can't be less than about 4" from the center of the DRL. So the turn signal can actually be touching the DRL if the DRL is wide.
