The small threaded rod I said is for hanging your lunch on does not really seem to be an adjustment setup. It was tight and I didn't have any tools
with me to loosen it.
The large threaded rod in this one appears to be attached to something inside the horizontal tubes (one inside the other). but turning it had no effect on anything.

Sure wish I could get a make on this unit. Doubtful there's info on an oldie like this one, but ........

I'm assuming it's something like this and if I had a hammer, a large hammer, I could have moved it....... maybe.

Wondering if that handle on the left of the first picture but in the middle of the big square tubing is locking the slider, which would explain why the threaded rod won't move.

I'm fairly certain that T handle is to lock the two tubes together, but I had that loose so other than rusted or a "adj rod" broken inside where I can't see, it should move.

A spring would make sense.
It's a challenge when you use old stuff. You never used it when everything worked so you don't know how it's supposed to work.
I just texted the owner about the make. He LOL'd and said "no idea".
Spent 45 minutes looking for old sawmill manufacturers, and brands. Nothing.
BPS painted on the covers got me nothing.
Maybe some day someone will recognize it because their grandfather had one.

DAY OF DISCOVERY

Learned a lot today. Some I fixed, some I still have to fix, some I'll have to learn how to fix, and some I'll have to ignore.

Yesterday the blade came off. Tension adjustment was an issue. I looked at my bar-inside-bar theory with a hammer today. Bar is indeed SUPPOSED
to move within the other for blade tension. Not enough room for a real hammer so I used a claw hammer and beat it like it owed me money.
It moved enough to confirm my theory and loosened, then tightened the blade. It was, and essentially still is seized.

Got the blade back on and turned it all by hand a 1/2 dozen turns. The blades are not tracking evenly.

Loosened all the guides and reset everything. Originally I didn't put the guides against anything; just left them a hair away. They weren't touching anything when I got this thing so I figured leave well enough alone.
Today I set everything the way you-tube has been telling me to.
The horizontal guide bearing looked like it was supposed to keep the blade running in a certain place so I set it to juuuust touch the blade. Blade sits low, but the wear showing is from past use so.....

The blade hits the top cover but it looks like it's been doing that all along and doesn't even leave wear marks.

Late in the day I tried some cutting after all the adjustments and I'm getting some climb of the blade.

IIRC this is caused by the blade not running flat on the wheel, or guides. Not sure if it's a major issue at the moment because I'm
just needing to cut "landscape" timbers. I was also cutting at full RPM for the first time, and faster feed as I get more familiar and confident.

Using the level as a straight edge......

Hope I'm not dominating with my daily mill drama, but this is the exact type of thread I would learn from, so I'm hoping others might be learning from this one.
Or at least getting a chuckle out of my misdeeds.

And just for fun.....
I wasn't sure what this rod was for yesterday and said it was for hanging your lunchbox.
Found out today there's one on the other side too that I didn't notice and it's for a cover over the bearings.

And this is quite a contraption to raise and lower the cutting head. One chain on each side.

Why it was left just hanging in space, I don't know. But without a bungee cord it just piles up under itself.
I don't see anything that may have been attached to the loose end, and not sure it was supposed to have anything other than
another sprocket. And it sure never had that.

And here's more of my tree selection. BTW I was aiming for 8"x8" timbers, but so far none of the trees already fallen that I have taken have been large enough
to get that. I will probably have to do 6"x6", or maybe 8" with unfinished sides. Just pull the bark.

I believe that at one time that chain was attached to something, most likely some type of tensioner.

That's a dense stand of pine. I see why you want to thin it. I had one similar to that in back of my house,it got some root disease and died off. They eventually cut and chipped it, but the value was gone by then.

The chain IS for raising and lowering the head, IF it's like others I've seen, as long as it stays on the sprocket, it doesn't need to be attached to anything.
