Hyd oil leak

   / Hyd oil leak #11
i can see your thoughts on this but my front i changed the two seals on front wheels and i uaed 80 90 gear oil a better choice in my opinion instead of lighter oil, The reason i am mentioning this is the oil in my transmission and hydraulic is red in color i have used this for my UTD fluid and the leak i have is red oil so it is coming from my hyd trans. the 80 90 oil i put i the front end is clear oil
The seal that I am speaking of is at the front of the transmission for the driveshaft to the front axle. It will be UDT leaking, not what you have in the front axle, and will require the tractor to be split in half to fix, if you choose to fix it.

sounds like the typical input shaft seal, it will get worst so start saving up should be around 2,000$

I was told by my dealer that the red hydraulic oil is not compatible with wet clutches and wet brakes. something to do with disintegrating the linings. I don't know if your is just dyed red so you can see it or if it is actually red hydraulic oil (I don't remember the actual type)

i changed my trans hys oil probably more than needed, but i don't consider it a waste of time to take care of what i have, I own a Kubota L3940 very nice tractor save me a lot of work, I have to give it a big hug and thank you from time to time! i noticed the other day a bit of a leak close to where the small button you can push in case you get into water some place you can push this with your finger and let water out, never got that deep with mine, Anyway it appears to be comeing out close to that area, One it is not over filled from filling it from the rear end of tractor into transmission fill hole. i use it for mowing 6 acres of grass and have never notice it leaking before, Now i have taken it to my local gas station to get diesel fuel it is about a 2 mile or less trip. when i get on the road i run it about 3/4 throttle to get there and back, here lately I have done this more often this year than i have been doing. My point is when i have it on the road and run it faster than normal which in my mind will do them good to get up and run than not. Well when i get home from fueling up i look the following day and there is probably and oil leak about the size of a beer can circle? i am thinking this is the only time i have seen trans hdy oil leak. I am not sure why but the high rpm and travel speed causes it to do this, it is not near enough to be concerned about but am looking for a reason and thought maybe someone would know or would have had this problem, but it has happened about a half dozen times and every time i find this small amount of oil on the floor, And it is not motor oil it is the Trans Hyd oil because mine is red in color. Thanks
Just to update the responses i had and thanks for all of those, I forget where my tractor is kept the cement floor is on a down slope, so i get different readings on transmission hyd oil, it showed a bit high when the front of the tractor was on the down side, and when the front was on the high side it was over filled more than i realized, this slope is not real steep but enough to make some. So this is what was causing it to over flow some on my road trips. i am not going to do anything about it, for one i do not drive it to get fuel very often, but i have a lot of mowing to do with it and i get tired of hoisting a 5 gal fuel jug to fill it up, funny thing on getting old, i never gave it a thought when i was strong and young, Old hurts!! LOL
