Looks like an 80 or an R, built in 49~56

More pics would help, but model AR comes to mind. Don't see a pony motor for the R or 80 and just appears small in this pic. But little in pic to compare the size.

My guess is styled model AR built '49-'53. It's definitely not a Model R or 80 because those 2 cyl models had diesel engines with fuel injectors not spark plugs.

I agree with AR. Curious about the dark line on the block above the spark plug and extending back. Is that a crack?

It was a general photo posted on a FB group that I moderate, with the question asking what model of John Deere it was? I thought I'd ask the experts here. My best guess was the AR model, but always nice to hear from others. It was not a sales ad, just an interest photo, query.
