my JD 110 squeals when using backhoe and coming to end of a cylinder stroke. On all backhoe functions. Does not seem to make any noise when using front loader bucket. Obviously sounds like a low oil situation but transmission dip stick shows oil level between marks. Changed both hydraulic filters and new oil. Specs say it holds 15.1 gal but only able to get about 12 gal in before dip stick showing full. What could this be?

Theres a difference between hydraulic fluid system capacity and hydraulic fluid reservoir capacity. Or possibly dip stick not reaching bottom of reservoir.
Some squealing and related noises are typical. Have you greased all zerk fittings to ensure its not metal on metal contact?

I don't have a John Deere, so I'll ask does the 110 have a metal strainer in the suction line from the tank? most everything I have worked on does.

Since loader is quiet it most likely is not a pump or oil level issue.

does the squeal only happen when coming to end of cylinder stroke or does it also happen if you load a function to the point of stalling that function?

Does it sounds like a squeaky screen door but much louder? And comes from one cylinder or one motion? Often it the dipper stick cylinder, but it could be any cylinder. I've done several on older backhoes of ours.

A squeal from a cylinder is usually an indication that the cylinder needs a rebuild & cleaning because the internal seals have gotten packed with fine dust brought in on the cylinder rod as it works. Often it is a clay type dust and looks almost like hardened grease & gets behind the O rings on the piston. If you get to it soon enough, you will probably get away with new rubber parts.

It's no big job, I suggest you take the cylinder off and down to your local hydraulic shop & let him go through it.

Specs say hydraulic and transmission fluid capacity is 15.1 gal. Dip stick is correct stick and seated.
pulled the drain plug in sump as well as replaced both filters. No way can you get 15 gal back in. Must be a difference as you say in terminology.
I've Had two of these machines and put thousands of hours on them. Never had this condition. Not a grease problem for sure.
thanks for reply

Happens when loading functions to max also as you say but only on backhoe. Like a relief is not opening

Kind of points towards a relief operating causing the squealing when close to system pressure.

If we could somehow hear the sound it is making that would help figuring out what it is.

Does anyone know if these Back hoes have cushions in the cylinder to reduce slamming at end of the stroke? If the ado that could also potentially cause a little whistling or stealing noise.
