Umm, I'm thinking one of those clamp on jigs and a file may be more my skill level.

The grinders are easy to use as long as you set them up correctly it’s no different then a file in that respect. I’ve fixed a lot of chains that have been filed by guys or even guys using those jigs.

Measure from the back of the band to the top of each cross bunk to see if all the measurements are the same, they should be.

Put a 6x6 on the mill to lean the half log up against to mill it...

I'm not sure what you mean by "back of the band" and I read it several times. Terminology unfamiliar I guess.
I had a short level (2') so I put a nice flat board across the two bunks, checked level on the mill deck - good, then checked level on the board/bunks - also good.

I was sitting here trying to get the energy to make up a couple different sized wedges, but the 6x6 as a rest saved me from that.
Thank you!!
I'll try that tomorrow. If I can't get it to work, it'll be back to wedges I guess.

Still haven't run into the guy who owns the mill so I can offer him a little for it, but the first thing I would do is upgrade the dogs.
I think the round tube they slide on is spread so it can't get a good...... cantilever? Is that the word? Too sloppy.

Saw some good ideas.
This for certain small dimensional cuts

This looks easy enough but I'd have to stare at my mill to see if it would work.

I've used my chainsaw more in the last month than the last ten years so even though I don't know what a grinder is worth I'm sure it'll be hard to justify the cost.
Different if I was using it all the time.

How many chains do you buy and toss is a better question in the last month? The cheap grinders use to start at 40 dollars us not that many years ago.

Front of the band (some call them blades) has teeth, it's easier to measure from the bank of the band...

The mill only has to be level side to side, but every bunk has to be the same distance to the band or you will be sawing a taper if the log lands on the bunk that is, off measurement..

One.
The spare chain I have and the one that was on the saw were bought in 2004.

Ok. Now I get it. Thanks for the tip.
I figured band was blade but I couldn't see what you meant for me to measure.

Quick check of our equivalent to Harbor Freight is $70 to $160 for bench mount grinders.
