D4D is cat, yes. It’s a pretty stout dozer though, I’ve seen them run, they’ll push over trees fairly easy. 90 HP and I think around 20,000 pounds I’m not logging and pushing over sequoias or anything. Good to know that parts availability is presumably a little better with Cat than the others. Thanks for the info.
We have a trac hoe remember? The trac hoe can knock down and pile an acre of trees while the dozer is still trying to get the first one down. Trac hoe is big with a thumb on it. Picks up big trees and piles them. Whole trees stump and all. Plus you can pick up and drop stumps to knock dirt off them for burning. Plus sometimes we cut stumps off and take to one spot with the ss and the th piles them like a tee pee, burns good. Try that with a dozer. They brought a case dozer on the last job we were on. But with three skid steers and two big trac hoes, we only cranked it when we loaded it up to leave, two weeks later. I guess if both hoes got stuck we might have used it.

My point was/is, you are comparing a hoe AND skidsteer to a dozer, then claiming the skidsteer is much better.
Right he can keep the skid steer. Just get a trac hoe for a couple of weeks per 40 acres and he should be cooking with grease. I had a D 7 for years with a winch. Pain to move. Work on it down in the woods where it falls apart. A front idler split on me 1/4 mile in the woods. Had to break tracks right there. Move blade off of it. Jack up remove front idler. Drive way off and find another one. Come along and bindered the track together. Or it started blowing water and it had cut the sleeve in the engine. I fixed that. It started easing out of gear, fixed that. Oh take a radiator out and repair it. Water pump started leaking, that was fixed by me too, tough because big water pump. And that old dozer still goes. But, I don't want it. I can say I know a lot about dozers though.
There is a nice 450 JD here. Final drives slipping a little but looks nice and runs good 3,000 bucks. But our big skid steer weighs 13k and it will load feed mixers, dirt, pile with grapple, run Bush hog and mulcher, run hydraulic auger, haul it to storms all over the country and clean up, load lumber at the saw mill, stack and put out hay for 3,000 cattle. That's just the things we do. Dozer you can only push and drag. You gotta make every move count because it's metal to metal and wearing out.
