I have done it, but it's been years...decades...since I've fired a gun off at midnight.
Main reason, if I'm drinking, the guns stay locked up.
Since New Year's Day is my birthday, high probability is I will be tipping a few...

When I was younger and might have stayed out late, instead I went to bed early and got up for what was then opening day of ice fishing. So I never picked up the NYE habit. If I had though, I still wouldn't have been shooting. As another poster stated, my guns go away before I start to imbibe. Plus I've never picked up the "habit" of shooting w/o a backstop.
The only exception was the year of the Y2K farce. I happened to wake up just in time to see the new year in, so turned on my GPS just to watch it self implode. The only oddity that year occurred when I got my 35mm film developed... for some reason my camera had taken a picture of the ceiling.

I haven't done that in decades, but I have a few .30-06 milsurp tracers that I picked up at a gun show. They're Berdan primed, and may be corrosive, so I'm wondering if firing one off is worth the multiple cleanings.
