Tractor News Deere shifting production

I was president of a company when we suffered a six month auto worker strike. Our production rate per hour went up but not enough to cover the reduced hours due to lack of salaried staff. We did not hire "scabs".

When they finally settled, it was essentially for the same offer they had rejected months before. Those folks never got back what they lost and we were able to keep all our major customers. The salaried staff made good bonuses for the extra hours they worked

I felt badly for the average union Joe. They were led by idiots.

Union leadership may have been at fault in your instance. The current situation at Deere is driven by the rank & file.

Thanks for sharing the whole article.

Sounds like greed on both sides at the cost of the consumer.

Very few people I know have been offered a 10% raise since the 70s. I was given a big raise 3 months before I retired but I already had my retirement papers in. Had I wanted to work another 5 years at the higher wage my retirement income would have benefitted greatly.

Conditions were shifting from a job I loved to one I was less excited about so I bailed.
Except it's not a 10% raise.

It's 10% immediate raise, $8500 immediate ratification bonus, 5% raise in year 3, and 5% raise in year 5, and no premium health insurance + more stuff. It adds up to well over 30% raise over the 6 year contract.

Plus COLA's.

It's easier to pay one white guy to rape and pillage domestic production than to share the wealth with all domestic employees. Cannon fodder should be happy to be given any jobs at all...happy like the chinese slave labourers in their dormitories.

I've worked for several different companies over my career, never missed a pay day and have always been grateful that I had the particular job I had. This is out and out greed on the part of the union and the workers. No one to blame but themselves. No one is leading them in this direction, they are the ones blazing this trail. That's one helluva contract and them rufusing it should end up biting them in their butts. I don't feel sorry for a single one of them. This is exactly why it's so hard to find something made in the USA. Heck, if it's made by these clowns I'm not so sure I want it anyway.

Lets pull back on the reins a little bit.....45% of the voting rank & file voted for the contract.

Had no problem with the link being blocked. UAW should have learned by now that over asking results in production moving overseas.

Therein lies the problem don't you think? It doesn't really matter if 2 voted for it.
