Back when I cut my pines for firewood - I had a few issues that made me change my plans also. That was one reason I quit cutting the REALLY big pines. Had the property selectively logged to get rid of the ancient P. pines. 20" and smaller was plenty big enough.

Well - our BIG storm turned out to be a fizzle. Saw gusts up to 28 mph - that's all it could do.

No pines came down - not even the few dead ones. Got loads of dead pine needles everywhere.

Dieselbound - around here Cottonwood trees are considered junk trees. The wood is like water saturated balsa wood. Limbs are always cracking and falling. NOBODY ever plants a cottonwood anywhere near their house or outbuildings.

Saw that big 'ol cottonwood into small sections and haul it away with your grapple.
I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in the PNW the black cottonwood is almost worthless. I cut one up for firewood once. Never again. There was more ash than heat. The dead ones do grow a lot of oyster mushrooms. I understand sometimes they peel them for CVG veneer on plywood, but I have never seen plywood with a cottonwood finish.

Yes I have mostly cleaning up trees/logs and brush.IMHO the grapple is a must have option.Heck comes in handy for bringing deer out of the woods also.

Yes - and much better than having to drag it anywhere. Nice buck ........

I use my top lid to rake the brush & rubble around my pine trees that are close in - around the house & outbuildings. Makes it look nice. Out on the remainder of the property - let Mother Nature handle it. Raking brush and pine needles is not easy for me. Soon my back hurts and I quit. The grapple lets me do it with no pain.
