I have a John Deere 4066R that I have had for a year or so, I just purchased a chipper, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the pto run when I am not in the seat. I have set the parking brake as well as put it in neutral. is there a trick for this?

Try leaning the seat forward then start tractor

Parking brake, neutral. Do not engage PTO while on the tractor (or the seat to be specific). That‘s how mine works. Mine is a 2017 4066R open station.

Exactly!
The only thing I do that's slightly different is I start the engine from outside the cab (right side door), engage the PTO (at idle RPM) once the engine is warmed a bit, then increase RPM to PTO speed (about 2600 RPM).
Like Unhitched, this process is for my chipper
4052R...same machine as the 4066, but a bit less HP

For a Kubota....you have to start pto while sitting on seat....but immediately flip seat up after getting off.

Sounds like JD may be a little different.

In any case....I guarantee it's spelled out in your owners manual.

That totally worked, I never thought that I needed to engage the pto without sitting in the seat, thank you!
