Ordered a 2022 Ram 2500

Congrats...Post some pics when the time comes. While I went with the diesel on my 19 GMC, unless you are towing really heavy a fair amount of the time, the diesel isn't really worth it especially the nearly 10k upcharge.
It depends on how long you keep your vehicles. Consider that a gasser truck with 200k miles is worn out and has a minimal resale value. But a diesel truck with high mileage still has significant resale value. If you trade vehicles with low mileage, then the gasser truck is a better option (unless you do significant towing of heavy trailers.)

True to a point...Maintenance is a huge factor with either type of truck. I used to run gassers to around 200k and they still looked and drove perfectly..I've seen diesels nearly destroyed before 100k.

I bought my diesel for the primary purpose of towing around 10k numerous times in the summer. Resale never really factored in, just safety and capacity. As long as nothing major breaks, the maintenance costs are reasonable in comparison to gas and I let the dealer do everything while it's under warranty so I have a paper trail.

The gas burner will last longer than 200k but let’s say it does explode at 200k. You can drop another one in for less than it would cost you to re do the injection equipment in the diesel. Not to mention the diesel has been ruined and cost an arm and leg to keep on the road. The days of a diesel putting in 400k trouble free miles are over. More times than not the vehicle is junk before that point anyway.

The additional weight of the diesel engine eats up most of the payload gain of the 2500 over ther 1500. If one need the diesel to tow heavy loads, should consider bumping up to the 3500.
In some brands that's true but there's no substitute towing my camper and utility trailers with a 2500 over a 1500. Towed with 1500's for 10 years and I've never been happier now that I have the 2500. Just didn't really need a 3500. Maybe someday.

Stellantis (sp?) is the name of the group that bought in with Chrysler, Ram, Dodge and Jeep, part of Fiat also.

<snip> The longer they sit in storage, the more the components and seals age as well as (batteries). I can see down the road issues coming about.
And the tires don't need all the sun they get in some of the storage lots.

Has anyone read of how quickly that stock build up is cycling?
I've been saving my $$ and a newish truck might be a place to dump them.

That has not been my experience. And I’m talking resale value. Check out the value of trucks with 200k miles; both diesel and gasser. What I stated is correct.

Well....I already have a Ram 3500 cab/chassis with the 6.7L diesel. And I have a Ram 2500 with the 6.4L hemi. This truck is not to replace either of those. It is an additional truck to my fleet. I use the 3500 to pull heavy loads with a 28' gooseneck and we use the 2500 to pull lighter loads with a 20' bumper pull trailer. But I can, and have, used either one to pull either trailer.

This new truck will mostly be used as my personal truck, but still can be used to pull either trailer. I consider this new truck as my reward for 20 years of hard work building my business to where it is now, and I can now afford it.

And, in my opinion, there is very little difference in cost of ownership between a diesel and a gasser. I feel that for pulling heavier loads, the diesel is the better option, but for lighter loads, a gasser works well. As I mentioned in my first post, I already have the 6.4L hemi and I really like the way it handles, and that's the main reason I've order the 6.4 in this truck.

On December 3, 2021 I ordered a Ram 2500 Laramie. The sales manager said it should take about 3 to 4 months to arrive. Usually it's 3 months, but the factory shuts down for 3 weeks for Christmas. Today he told me that it has been assigned a VIN. And he says Chrysler will email me with updates on the progress of the build. I haven't got anything from Chrysler yet.
Curiously, how customizable is a vehicle you order vs picking one from the lot? Is it just what color and options package or can you mix and match and actually get it configured the way you want it?

True, especially considering the higher cost of diesel fuel and the almost $10k premium for it. I'd say most of us here have no need for the extra towing capabilities of a diesel.
